Certain 2022 GMC Yukon units built with a non-functional Front and Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD5) are now eligible for a retrofit and activation of the system, according to a new GM revision of Customer Satisfaction Program N222375790.
The global microchip shortage at the time of production affected GMC production as well as that of GM’s other brands, leading to 2022 GMC Yukon units which should have been built with front and rear park assist being produced without the correct control module.
Front and rear park assist was normally equipped as standard on all trim levels of the 2022 GMC Yukon alongside other types of General Motors active safety technology. Some of these, such as Reverse Automatic Braking, were also put under constraint by the semiconductor shortage.
The exact dates of production during which the 2022 GMC Yukon was built with a non-functional park assist varies by trim level. For the SLE, SLT and AT4 trim levels, the constraint started with January 24th, 2022 production and continued through the rest of the model year.
The constraint for the range-topping Denali trim also began on January 24th, but was resolved immediately after April 10th, 2022. All vehicles built without the feature were easily identified by the RPO code 00Z on their window sticker, regardless of trim level.
GM has not indicated how many 2022 GMC Yukon units were built without a functional park assist feature. The GM Global Warranty Management system indicates affected Yukon units that are eligible for a retrofit with the notation “Open” on the individual vehicle’s Investigate Vehicle History screen.
Other GMC models produced at roughly the same time were likewise built without a correctly functioning park assist, with the exact details varying by trim level and other factors. Limited GMC park assist availability affected the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 LTD and the fully refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.
Dealers are instructed to carry out the retrofit free of charge on affected 2022 GMC Yukon units. The repair consists of replacing the park assist control module and setting up the serial data gateway module to restore park assist function. The program will remain in effect through July 31st, 2026.
Dealers were instructed to tell buyers about the constraint and plans for a future retrofit when the vehicle was bought.
