1,000-HP 1955 Chevy 3100 Scorches The Pavement: Video

When it comes to appearances, this 1955 Chevy 3100 is definitely hiding a secret. First impressions make it appear as though it’s just a relatively simple old-school pickup, but as soon as the driver hits the throttle, this thing transforms into an absolute monster, lighting up the rear tires with four-digit horsepower. Now, we’re taking a closer look thanks to the following feature video.
Coming to us from the folks at AutotopiaLA, the video is a little under 30 minutes long, and includes some background info on the car, its owner, plus a little tire-shredding antics out on the street.
The current owner has had this ride for about 18 years, and apparently, they have quite a bit of experience street racing. As the story goes, the owner has been in the scene since he was 16, collecting a total of six impressive straight-line machines over the years. This 1955 Chevy 3100, however, is his favorite.
Part of that affinity is undoubtedly the result of what’s under the hood. Making the go is an LS V8 with a new cam and reworked heads. The owner claims 1,000 horsepower without boost. Although there’s a pair of massive Turbonetics 64/66 turbos flanking the V8, they’re apparently not needed to simply walk away from the competition. With a little boost thrown into the mix (6 to 8 pounds), the owner estimates 1,200 horsepower.
Under the body, this Chevy 3100 incorporates a Chevy Camaro front clip, with coilover suspension and tubular A-arms. The rest of the frame, however, is stock. The plan is to add a four-link in back with a bit of a tub and more tire sometime in the near future.
Funny enough, the owner loves to daily drive this 1,000-horsepower Chevy 3100, even hauling around a fridge or couch in the bed, if needed. However, as soon as he tips into the throttle, the pickup will leap forward with explosive acceleration, as demonstrated later in the video.
