The 2024 Chevy Traverse is poised to introduce a brand-new third generation for the crossover, with a long list of updates and changes headed down the line. That includes a revised trim level lineup with the deletion of the RS and High Country. However, that begs the question – should GM replace the Chevy Traverse RS with a new RST trim level?
At first blush, it certainly seems to make sense. After all, every other crossover in Chevy’s lineup offers an RS trim level, while nearly all of the truck models offer an RST trim level. Add in the fact that the Traverse’s main competitors offer sportier variants, including the Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer, and well, it appears as though it would indeed be in GM’s interest to offer a new RST trim for the 2024 Chevy Traverse.
So what’s the difference? Well, given the 2024 Chevy Traverse will be more “truck-like” than the current second generation, as covered by GM Authority previously and confirmed by GM President Mark Reuss, a new “Rally Sport Truck” trim level would fit the bill nicely. The third-gen model is already poised to introduce a new off-road-oriented Z71 trim level, so a sportier RST trim would round it out nicely.
Further updates will include an all-new exterior with a more truck-like appearance and dual-tier headlights (per Chevy’s latest “High Brow” design language), forward-leaning C-pillars, large-diameter wheels, and quad exhaust tips. The cabin will be overhauled as well, and will include new infotainment goodies, safety features, and the GM Super Cruise system. Under the hood, we expect the 2024 Chevy Traverse to cradle the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, per yet another GM Authority exclusive, with output estimated at roughly 300 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, mating to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Production will kick off later this year at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant.
So then, we want to know – do you think GM should offer a new RST variant for the third-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse? Tell us by voting in the poll below, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevy Traverse news, Chevy news, GM business news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Would be nice if they would put at least a slightly more powerful engine in the RS/RST models to give it some bite. Hate being all bark, no bite like these other Chevy RS trims.
It needs the turbo v6 to really make it sportier, RS and RST, more window dressing than anything else, just letters from the alphabet. They need more punch to compete with the Durango and Explorer if they want to make it a Rally Sport Truck !!
Have they announced color options for the 2024 Traverse yet?
So I buy the traverse base model, stick aftermarket RS letters on it. I will be a hit!
Add the 4 cylinder but please keep the six and super charge it for the “sporty” variants. Caddy “V”.
Aldo are they going to update the sunroof to a panoramic version and get rid of the dual scape version. When are they expecting to announce the new model to the public before production starts.
The Durango is rear wheel drive I’m not sure if the Explorer is 4cyl and sport shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath all the RS trims seems to be an appearance package nothing performance oriented I guess the RST badge will get watered down as well cost cutting but nothing cutting edge has always hurt GM and it always will still after all these decades GM still tries to play it safe while their competition are being more creative and more innovative I guess they never will get it smh
GM has been using the RS badge way too much over the last several years. None of their RS models are more than an appearance package and upcharge…even the RST trucks. All show and no go. The Equinox RS and Malibu RS are laughable. The Blazer RS just guarantees that the V6 is standard instead of the 4cyl. The Traverse RS is just a badge, no performance upgrades. I have seen RST Silverado’s with the 2.7L Turbo. The RST Tahoe might be the only vehicle that has a small bump in power. The RS Camaro was just a V6. But, customers are pretty stupid and will buy into anything thinking they are getting a sportier model because their ‘Nox says RS in the grill. The badge does nothing…at least red seatbelts are good for an extra 5hp.
Traverse is missing a lot of options it’s competitors have
Rain sensing wipers
Auto fold mirrors
Heads up display
Yea for sure super charged engine option to compete with the piece of $hit st explorer
Truck – like! I don’t get it. I don’t believe buyers go for a three row SUV to take offroad.
Other than Jeep Wrangler’s and Ford Bronco’s, are there really people taking their offroad “capable” SUV’s out on the trail? I can’t picture someone taking a Traverse, Blazer, Tahoe/Suburban Z71, Acadia AT4, or Trailblazer Activ out on anything more treacherous than a mall parking lot. Automakers have consumers bent over a barrel…they know that more badges = higher prices, especially if they are offroad badges.

True…,Nothing More Than A Money Grab….I Just Like The Looks Of The Off Road Models!…Most Are Great In Snow If Need Be….Plus If You Are A Family Man With Children There Is The Safety Comfort Level That These Vehicles Provide When It Comes To Certain Weather Conditions!
Please don’t get rid of the great 6 cylinder
The 6 cylinder is toast, too much friction, too little torque.
Ok so far I’m loving everything except, the idea of a turbo 4cyl. how can you state making it more sporty like the Durango which has a V6 and V8 options, and the Explorer has 4cyl. and V6 turbo. So GM/Chevy I hope you are listening don’t drop the V6 options and also please add a more powerful V6 310hp. is ok but if your going to compare and compete bring in the V6 turbo you’ve already killed the Camaro and the SS sedan give us something to get us intrigued!
You are correct, But when you see who killed the Camaro and is also running GM, I would highly anticipate the Caprice station wagon making a comeback (with a 4cyl turbo) lol. Throw on a Soccer Mom decal on the back instead of a SS, and you got it made.
Hope they get rid of traverse LS chai interior just go black or grey
