GM pulled the sheets on the U.S.-spec 2024 Buick Envista this past April, revealing the Tri-Shield brand’s latest small, premium crossover. The 2024 Buick Envista made its world debut last year at the Chengdu Motor Show. Now, GM Authority is set to climb behind the wheel of the new Envista, which leads us to ask – what do you want to know?
Outside, the 2024 Buick Envista presents the latest Buick design language, taking inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept vehicle with narrow, checkmark-style LED signatures drawn back towards the front fenders, angled lower styling lines, and a broad grille. Wheel sizing includes 18- and 19-inch options.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find a wealth of infotainment features, with 19 inches of combined LCD screen real estate, including an 11-inch central screen. A flat-bottom steering wheel is included as standard across the lineup. Safety features include Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Intellibeam automatic headlights, while further safety and driver assist features are available as optional upgrades. There’s also as much as 42 cubic-feet of rear cargo room with the rear seats folded down.
A total of three trim levels will be offered, starting with Preferred, followed by Sport Touring (ST), and topped by the Avenir. Pricing starts at $23,495.
As for the engine spec, all 2024 Buick Envista models are equipped as standard with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the GM six-speed automatic transmission, while the GM VSS-F vehicle set provides the underpinnings.
So then, tell us – what do you want to know about the 2024 Buick Envista? Ask us by posting your questions in the comments section below, and we’ll respond as soon as we’re able. Note that we will answer any drive-related questions when the embargo on driving impressions lifts on July 11th.

The coupe roofline cuts cargo capacity to under 21 cubes. But cargo hold length is probably shorter than a sedan with 16 cubes because they count height, which won’t be used much. What can fit in it?
As someone who has leased four or five new Encores and an Encore GX, I never put much back there anyways. Groceries and shopping bags for the most part. I think the stylish design is worth a little loss of cargo. The new 2024 Encore GX rear-end looks very boring and dated in comparison to the 2024 Envista.
It’s an elevated sedan. Reminds me of old AMC Eagle. Ford Evos does the same. Probably the future of sedans
Buick Verano replacement, more or less.
Does the Watts Linkage make a difference in handling? How’s steering feel/weight?
The blue Avenir trim looks great! Here’s what I want to know: Why the crappy 3 cylinder engine? Pathetic.
First, the three-cyl is far from “crappy” or “pathetic” based on other models that run the same mill. Second, this is an entry-level model… did you expect a supercharged V8?
Alex, my daily driver has the 3.6L engine, but on occasion I will drive my wife’s Encore GX that has the 1.3L along with the 9-speed trans. We have a four-lane local road that stretches between 2 suburbs and in the Encore, along with that torque at the low end, I am usually the fastest vehicle when the red lights change to green. For example, a few weeks ago, I stopped for a red light and was in the right lane; the vehicle next to me was a Honda Civic coupe with that extended ‘spoiler’ on the trunk lid. I didn’t floor the Encore or try to outgun the Honda, but he didn’t pass me until I hit the speed limit and then I was passed by the Civic coupe. In other words, this engine surprises me, that for a daily driver it does have more than adequate low-end torque. Now, I wouldn’t expect the 1.2L to perform as well, but as a daily driver, this 1.2L/6 speed trans will probably satisfy most purchasers.
This is my gripe… and it has absolutely nothing to do with horsepower, torque, or 0-60 MPH. The Buick Envista with the 1.5T in other markets attains far more impressive MPG than the 3 cylinder US version.
True. In fact, the 1.5 Envista achieves a 20% mpg increase over the 3 banger.
We just purchased our 2024 Envista & can tell you without hesitation, the engine is impressive! Plenty of power without use of the turbo, exceptional mileage averaging 38mpg with a maximum of 45.3mpg, smooth, quiet, simply a great car for the price. It’s the best automotive purchase we’ve ever made in the last 50yrs!!
Thanks for the owner update, Timothy. I am disappointed that the author of this article never bothered to answer any of our questions. Can you tell me if the Envista still rides smooth and quiet at interstate highway speeds? Can you see taking the Envista on a long road trip?
It’s cheap! They have to cut costs somewhere to keep this MSRP low. And speaking for myself, I don’t care about power in a comfortable daily driver. These days I care about MPG and comfort. I haven’t had a speeding ticket in over 10 years and hope to keep it that way.
Is it cheap though? This engine delivers the two items you mentioned – MPG and comfort… it also delivers solid levels of performance at a very low price point, to boot. Can you please explain the logic behind you calling this engine “cheap”?
I didn’t mean the engine is cheap, I meant the vehicle is cheap, as in AFFORDABLE! Value is a good thing! This seems like a pretty great daily driver package for under $30K. Isn’t the median new car price like $45K? If it takes a sort of weak engine to get the price to such affordability, so be it.
Ah, I understand your comment now. My apologies, I was under the impression that you were referring to the engine.
I purchased a Trax activ trim – honestly I was very skeptical of the engine. I also test drove the Trailblazer with the 1.3L rated at 155 hp and I opted for the Trax which I thought was a bit more peppy and smooth than the TB. At low speeds you feel and hear the 1.2L but once you get to cruising speeds it’s quite lively and super quiet. At times it feels like an EV.
I totally agree with Alex.
We want a 3.0 TT and call it Grand National
It doesn’t look like a Bose option is available on the Envista. How’s the sound with the standard system?
The sound is better in the Envista than in my 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS Limited Edition with the 6-speaker bose system…
How smooth is the ride? Do the 19 inch wheels in the Avenir make for a rougher ride? Do you hear the engine when cruising at highway speeds? Is the driver’s seat comfortable? How is the visibility for a smaller woman driver?
My concerns as well. Looking to buy one of the first Avenirs I can find locally but would like to make sure the interior is quiet and the ride is plush. Otherwise I’ll just get the much cheaper ST.
When will they arrive at dealerships ?
Yeah, sort of a weird launch. Not a fan of the vagueness of when these are to hit dealers. And we can’t even build one yet on the Buick website.
How quiet is the interior? Buick is boasting about how quiet it is, something about QuietTuning technology? Is the Avenir interior substantially quieter than the ST? How is the comfort on pot-hole filled roads? The large wheels on the Avenir look great but I wonder if they impact what should be a smooth ride. But maybe the Avenir’s Watt’s-link rear suspension handles that? Real world MPG?
Are you getting looks driving this around? I bet you are as it’s pretty striking, in a good way, at its price point — especially the Avenir. Can you ask your GM rep why you can’t get non-Black wheels on the ST spec or upgrade the Preferred spec to decent wheels? I think black wheels are so played out. You’re basically forced to get the Avenir if you want decent looking wheels. Lastly, when exactly will this thing hit dealer lots? None of the Buick/GMC dealers in Michigan seem to know anything about this and it’s supposed to trickle into dealers in July?
Great looking vehicle.
Wrong engine…
Should have used the 1.5L from the Equinox.
Read the reviews on the Trax.
Bottom line… great value. Wrong engine on the highway and they said cheap plastic interior. They also mentioned that anywhere you put your arm is hard plastic.
Same money puts you in the Kona, Impressa, Crosstrek, CX-30…. Should I continue??
The target demo for the Envista does not care about 0-60… As a prospective buyer, I care about miles per gallon and how quiet it is… The only thing that concerns me about the small 1.2 litre engine is if it’s wheezy and adds noise to the cabin… If it’s quiet, I couldn’t care less about the abysmal performance. Although I do wish it was more like 35 combined miles per gallon, rather than 30…
With the 1.5T, the Envista gets 36 mpg combined. Now, explain why we get the pathetic 3 cylinder?
Agreed. Even the Envista sold in the Chinese domestic market gets the 1.5T. With better performance AND better fuel economy the 1.5T should have been a no-brainer for the USA. Why did GM make that choice for the US Envista? It would seem to defy logic and common sense. I would gladly pay a little more for for the larger engine.
It’s super quiet, with our first average per gallon as 38mpg. The best was 45.3mpg. It’s smooth & the seats are very comfortable. Our model is the Preferred, we chose not to spend $3-$4K more for cosmetics. Functionally, this is the best auto purchase we ever made…
as a new Trax owner – agreed a ton of interior plastic. But it’s an entry-level level vehicle. With that said it’s an incredible value for the price. It rides super smooth and at cruising speeds super quiet. I went from a Mariner to the Trax (I wanted to downsize a bit from a compact to a subcompact, in reality the Trax is 3 inches longer).
A couple gripes — the overall height wish it was an inch or two taller which would create a more spacious interior. And the overall greenhouse – the windows seem small especially the rear window.
Another nice looking underpowered GM product
When are they going to stop making Buicks?
Acrostar,
They did, a few years ago. gm just forgot to change the name to Geo.
@Acrostar Do trolls live longer? If so, then on your 200th birthday…
Will GM offer the Envista with AWD at some point or will it be strictly FWD?
When discussing this matter with the group responsible for the Trax, I was told that AWD adds complexity, which in turn will not allow them to hit their very specific price/cost targets. I expect this to be the case for the Envista as well.
How large is the fuel tank? Does it have a spare tire? Why does the same motor in the Buick have 1 less horsepower than the Trailblazer and the Trax or even the Encore GX? Does it have a CVT or a 9 speed automatic? Is AWD available?
Tank is 13.2 gallons (50 liters).
Yes, all trims get a 16-inch compact spare located under the cargo floor.
Thanks for the questions, Joseph!
I care about comfort, ride quality, and fuel economy. I no longer need high-powered engines and razor-sharp handling. Are the interior touch points better than in the new Trax? How well does the ANC work? Does the suspension soak up potholes? Many thanks.
Looks good!! Where did you drive it in the U.S. ?
Driving it this week in Michigan.
Any interior wind or engine noise at interstate speed (70-75 MPH sustained). Any difference in ride comfort between 18″ and 19″ wheels? Real world MPG at 70 MPH sustained. Ground clearance measurement. Any difference in ride comfort or interior wind/engine noise at 70 MPG sustained between ST and Avenir, assuming both have Watts link option. In other words, is the Avenir worth the price difference if the ride comfort is the same? Your opinion on using the Envista for long distance road trips. I live in rural, farm area. How does the Envista handle maintained dirt roads. Thank you, Frank
If my Trax is any indication – I am beyond amazed how super quiet it is. A couple people also noted how quiet it is.
My mom drives an Encore and my Trax is on par with that.
I keep wondering if the super quiet will eventually go away in a six months????
That’s good to hear, it’s supposed to be even quieter! Buick’s branding is quiet interiors.
The Trax has noise cancellation as standard which I was told by multiple people including the dealer is different than Buick’s “Quiet Tuning” technology. I wonder if the Envista will have the quiet tuning or just the noise cancelation?
Buick “Quiet-tuning” also includes acoustic glass in the windshield and front windows as well as additional sound deadening insulation surrounding the cabin. Buick has used the term “whisper quiet” to describe their approach. There may be more to this but I am uncertain.
Made in China and Korea. What a shame.
This will obviously fill some of the hole left when GM killed the Cruze.
Make these in America mary Barra or keep them in China.
The Envista we will get is made in Korea, which is likely a benefit in terms of quality control. The Trax is also built in Korea. Read some of the revies for that. Reviewers are generally impressed with overall fit/finish and build quality.
What Frank said. Also, you can see my review of the 2024 Trax here:
8000 Americans out of work when GM closed down the Cruze plant at Lordstown. Jobs went offshore and over the borders.
Funny how anyone can be in favor of that.
Not sure if anyone is “in favor” of what you’re describing, but there is a reason the Lordstown plant is no longer a GM property and why the Cruze is no longer offered in North America. That reason is financial: it’s already difficult to turn a profit on small cars… but to do so while making them in a high-cost market is near impossible.
Not true.
The reason the plant was sold was that GM did not repurpose the complex with another product.
GM was saved from bankruptcy by America yet they chose to place the New blazer in Mexico instead of Lordstown. Pretty sad.
Now GM fakes they are ‘green’ and environmentally conscious. Proof is when they bulldozed hundreds of acres, adjacent to the Lordstown complex and built a new 2 billion dollar plant to save a few bucks on labor.
Encore, Encore GX, and now the Envista have been imported from Korea for 12 model years. I’d prefer they were made here too, but this isn’t a new phenom.
What exactly is “QuietTuning With Active Noise Cancellation”? How quiet is the interior in the city and also at 45 mph and 70 mph? How does the Envista Avenir soak up rough Midwest roads?
Add 0-60 time as a gauge of it’s pick up.
Do any of the trims offer power folding side mirrors? Seems like an odd omission, at least on the Avenir, from an otherwise sexy coupe-crossover. Seems every premium new car these days has power mirrors when it’s turned off.
Nope, no power-folding mirrors on any trims. This is an entry-level vehicle, and I don’t know of any other vehicle in this segment and at this price point that does offer power-folding mirrors. If I’m not mistaken, one would need to get into something like a BMW X1 or Mercedes GLA to get power-folders, and both of these models have a starting price that’s over $10K higher than that of the Envista.
Alex,
What exactly is Buick/Geo? According to you the Enclave sells in the Luxury category. The Invasion in near luxury and now the Envista is entry level. But, you can get an Envista Avenir? Does gm really have any clue what to do with this division that’s 75% import and lowest ATP. Tell me again what’s luxurious about this product.
Not sure what you are not seeing. Enclave is a more luxurious option than Explorer/Pathfinder/Pilot etc. The Envision is the same versus CR-V, Rav4, Terrain, Escape etc. Encore GX does the same versus HR-V, Corolla Cross, Rogue Sport etc. and now the Envista does the same versus Kia Soul, Seltos, Taos etc. Spend a grand or two on upgraded materials, offer higher trims and tech, and sell for thousands more per unit. Same plan as Mazda, Infiniti and Acura.
RE: power-folding mirrors
Interesting question to pose for a blog post? I guess I thought power-folding mirrors were trickling into more and less expensive new cars. I’m pretty sure a new Model 3 RWD has them as standard? Depending on how you calculate sales price, the Model 3 RWD is $33K after the federal rebate. And I think the newest Audi A3 might have them standard? A3s start at $35K. I wonder if any of the $25K-35K domestic, Euro or Asian imports have them?
When will the online configurator be available? Will Bose Audio be available? Will the rear view camera on the mirror be available? I really like the looks of the back of this car without a rear wiper. Thanks!
The stock wheels are a bit embarrassing. Hopefully GM offers a decent wheel option on the Preferred in the future. I am tired of black wheels; a bit passé at this point. And can’t afford to casually blow an extra $10K on the loaded Avenir because I want prettier wheels.
How many North American workers will be displaced if this car is made in China for sale in North America?
For North American markets, this vehicle is made in Korea, not in China.
The general rule of thumb is that a vehicle is made in China and imported here when a business case can not be made to produce it locally… in other words, when it’s too expensive to make the vehicle in North America.
The Korean sourcing is what will save this car in the US. A lot of people are turned off on the Envision because of the Chinese connection.
Hasn’t hurt sales of the envision one bit.
Vee8,
And you know this from your crystal ball or sheer ignorance?
Will this model see an EV future?
How does the 3 cylinder engine perform? We owned a Buick Verano for nearly 12 years (sold to our nephew) and loved it for it’s comfort and quiet, while not caring that it was a bit underpowered. Do you think the Envista is as powerful as the Verano?
Alex, can you measure noise levels against a benchmark?
Curious as to how much of those traditional Buick qualities are present here. Namely, I’m curious as to how smooth, powerful, quiet, and cheap to own this car may be over the years.
Buick buyers seem to demand very quiet, smooth riding vehicles as a hallmark with the added expectation that they are nearly bulletproof from a reliability standpoint and require very little maintenance to operate. How easy is it for a mechanic to reach the timing belt/chain? Can spark plugs and coil packs be easily replaced without taking things apart? How big is the washer fluid capacity (Buicks used to have large tanks for these)? What’s the fuel range on the highway?
Other things are less test-specific. But basically what kind of buyer is Buick targeting for this?
Looks like a nice vehicle, but the power output is a real turnoff for me. I really wish they’d make a Regal off the Malibu chassis for us…but without the CVT.
I leased a mid-spec 2020 Encore and then most recently a mid-spec 2022 Encore GX and while they were decent enough dailies, I was annoyed with their road and wind noise levels on the expressway. While it’s pretty much the same price point, the Envista looks like a more premium product, so I hope there’s better sound insulation.
Can you show the interior colors and materials on all the models. I am reading at other sites that at the beginning of production there will not be any moon roofs put in.. Also some sites show the double moon roof on the Envista GM does not. Also some show moon roof as an extra but not all all models and no prices. Whats up with that. The prices listed is that with delivery fee included or not. Lets get this straight. How long for delivery from south korea 6 months.
What’s the public reaction like on the street? I saw a pre-production Avenir in Moonstone Gray Metallic driving around metro Detroit and it looked far more expensive than $30K. Sharp vehicle.
-Will you have a product engineer to bounce questions off of?
-ride quality over both sharp expansion joints and large holes. Does it beat an IRS car like Civic or Malibu? Are there bushing differences between gm’s torsion beams, Watt’s link or not? Trax or Envista?
-real world fill-up calc’d mpg at 80 (MI has 75 mph roads)? and again in stop-and-go red light traffic? compared to same segment experience?
-abrasive road tire noise at 80 with ‘quiet tuning’ versus one of the cars.
-any personal wish list features missing?
Buick needs to add power-folding mirrors to Avenir specs across their entire lineup. It’s a small thing, but it’s a premium feeling item.
Alex, of the colors you saw which in your opinion looked the best? Would love to see it in black and copper ice
This new look is ugly period!! I can’t stand it! The name of the car doesn’t fit either, all the cars and trucks have this new look and it burns me up, this is the design team is getting paid for? To screw up all the new upcoming models? I have way better designs than any of them and it’s pure talent because of my passion for cars and I can out design anyone in that studio hands down!
Bold declarations. Please inform us which of your designs have gone into production.
For my money, the Sport Touring is the sweet spot. Even with the Avenir upgrade you do not get the moonroof, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, or Rear Cross Traffic Alert as standard equipment. All models get Buick’s Quiet-Tuning package as standard equipment. Personally I can live without leather front seats and heated seats/steering wheel in hot, humid Florida, The Avenir won’t even give you leather in the back seats anyway. I also can live without that tiny moonroof (sunny Florida again). Don’t need Avenir’s standard power liftgate or remote start either. Add the Watts Link suspension option for ride quality, adaptive cruise control, and perhaps 19 inch wheels if it does not negatively affect the ride quality, and I’m good to go. Furthermore, I kinda like the look of the Sports Touring model better anyhow and you will get exactly the same quiet interior and smooth ride as the Avenir which is my main requirement,
ST is priced competitively but I’m so over the black wheel thing. It’s so overdone and for lack of a better term, played out. Bummer we have to get a top spec Avenir to get decent wheels.
Despite my comment above about the ST vs Avenir, I’m also still on the fence regarding which to buy. Only with the Avenir can you get the 8-way adjustable power seats. The greater adjustability of the power seats would probably be a benefit for longer drives.
Totally agree about the wheels, I’m also over the black fender arches and rocker panels, that every maker seems to have worn out, to me it “cheapens” the look of the vehicle, there are those that seem to think that it makes the vehicle look more “trail ready”, seriously? most of these won’t see a bit of off road, if they are going to continue to do this, don’t make that portion of the trim so large and intrusive, maybe they are just trying to save paint, but the labor to put them on and cost of plastic doesn’t match.
Drop in a 3.0 TT and call it Grand National !
Why not just use the 1.3L like what is offered in the Encore GX, in fact make it the standard engine, in reviews that I have read, it gets better fuel mileage than the 1.2.
When will Buick put the cost of the packages that you can add to the Envista on the website???? We need this info also!!! Seems to me that they forgot to add this info to there site!!!
Looks like it’s just going to echo the 2024 Encore GX option and trim list template, minus $3,000.
Drop in the 3.0TT and call it Grand National.
Drop in a 3.0TT and call it Grand National.
Can you ask your GM rep if there’s going to be a national lease program on these late this summer thru GM Financial?
In the Avenue trim, are both the front and rear seats vinyl? (I find the online description confusing.)
When will package pricing be released?
FWIW I agree re the 1.5l.
I recently saw an Ocean Blue Encore GX , which is also a color option on the Envista, and it looks nothing like the photos, that come from GM…sad.
When will you be posting the story???
What is the ground clearance on the Envista?
Why are the brake lights on the bottom of the car instead of the actual lights up too? The front lights look really stupid!
Can I add a Buick navigation system to the 2024 Envista ST? Will the info system support it?
is there an auxiliary option instead of starting up the car every time I attempt to learn how everything works? Greatly appreciate if anyone knows.
