After winning last weekend at Gateway, Kyle Busch and the No. 8 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 almost made it two in a row at Sonoma on June 11th, 2023, but was thwarted by the No. 19 Toyota TRD Camry of Martin Truex Jr. on the way to the checkered flag.
Busch guided the No. 8 Camaro to the Stage 2 win after claiming the lead on a restart on Lap 50, then subsequently lost the top spot to Truex’s No. 19 Camry, even as pit stops cycled throhttps://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chevroletnugh. The race was slowed once again as Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Camry struck the wall in Turn 12, giving Busch and the No. 8 Camaro another shot to take control of the race. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Camaro, Tyler Reddick’s No. 45 Camry and the No. 12 Ford Mustang of Ryan Blaney gambled on tires, staying out to gain track position instead of pitting.
However, on older tires, they fell victim to Truex’s No. 19 Camry and Busch’s No. 8 Camaro. Busch set the No. 8 NASCAR Chevy after Truex’s No. 19 Camry for the next 14 laps, getting close to the latter’s rear bumper, but could not execute the pass.
“I wish we had a little bit more,” said Busch. “I tried really hard at the end to at least try to keep Martin honest. Felt like I could beat him a little bit on a lap, then I would mess up. He would beat me by a little bit more on the next lap. We were just kind of trading a little bit there. He was able to pull away there late… ”
He added, “We gave it everything that we had. We made a lot of changes. We got a lucky break there with a yellow with only three laps on tires, so we were able to kind of cycle to the front… Good fortunes for us. Nice to come out here with a P2 after a win last week.”
Joey Logano finished third in the No. 22 Mustang, followed by Chris Buescher’s No. 17 Mustang and Elliott’s No. 9 Camaro rounding out the top five.

Glad to see Kyle and Richard Childress have the best Chevy two weeks in a row! Hope their season gets better every week to come. RCR back on top again!
I would have loved to see the 8 and RCR get a win two weeks in a row. Playoff points are looking good for the number 8. KB has won in Nashville before. I’m hoping he can win again next Sunday.
