No. 7 NASCAR Chevy Laments Xfinity Series Loss At Portland 2023: Video

Hot off his win at Charlotte on May 29th, 2023, Justin Allgaier and the No. 7 NASCAR Chevy Camaro put forth a valiant effort to track down the No. 00 Ford Mustang of Cole Custer at Portland International Raceway on June 3rd, 2023, but couldn’t seal the deal when it came down to it.

Allgaier, who led 23 laps in the No. 7 NASCAR Chevy, found his lead suddenly in danger when a wreck forced the race into NASCAR Overtime on Lap 76. He lost the top spot when Parker Kligerman’s No. 48 Camaro charged to the inside, forcing Allgaier’s No. 7 Camaro to run wide and opening the door for Custer’s No. 00 Mustang through Turn 1.

Allgaier sent the No. 7 Camaro through the road course’s multiple turns as he found himself relegated to second place. He never let up, keeping Custer’s No. 00 Mustang in his sights, but he couldn’t find a lane to make it stick as he charged to the finish line, .142 seconds off the lead.

“I saw a guy that decided he wanted to win his first race and just missed the braking zone,” said Allgaier of Kligerman’s aggressive move on the restart. “I understand it. I don’t blame him for being aggressive. I just hate it for everybody on this team. I felt like we did everything we needed to do today. These guys put an absolutely incredible Camaro underneath me. We were able to get up there and mind our business and not make anybody mad and have good, solid laps. And then there at the end, to have it taken away like that and finish second is really tough.

He added, “Hats off to Cole. He did what he needed to do – he made Turn 1.”

  1. It was a great race even though Chevrolet got aced from an incident that shouldn’t have happened. Road courses are the best. It shows the total car, driver and team skills more completely than the ovals.

  2. Allgaier is the unluckiest driver in NASCAR.
