The 2024 Chevy Malibu is the final model year for the current ninth-gen four-door, offering up just a few small changes and updates. Among these is a new exterior paint options list, with two paint colors dropped, specifically Dark Ash Metallic (paint code G6M) and Riverside Blue Metallic (paint code GKK), and Lakeshore Blue Metallic (paint code GXP) added to the list.

Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Malibu offers a single engine option, specifically the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LFV gasoline engine. Output is rated at 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine was dropped from the lineup with the deletion of the Premier trim level. The GM E2 platform once again provides the underpinnings. Production of the 2024 Chevy Malibu kicks off at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City on June 21st.

As GM Authority was the first to report, GM will introduce an all-new tenth generation Chevy Malibu for the 2025 model year.

  2. How about bringing back the 2.0 L motor….Why Does GM always reduce the engine choices and leave us with anemic motors?

    1. It’s likely coming out as an EV and gm doesn’t want the ICE motor to beat it in a 0-60 test.

  3. The Malibu is a great car. GM should not have dropped the 2.0l from the line up. We’ve had 2 of the current Malibus, a2017 (leased) and a 2019 we purchased outright when returned our lease. Both have been premier with the 2.0 and both have given us excellent performance. The only thing I’ve felt this car was lacking was the option for AWD for those of us who live in snowy conditions throughout portions of the year. If this car had AWD it would have been the best in its segment.

  4. I agree with the others saying that they should have kept the 2.0L engine too, but I can’t agree when others say how bad the 1.5L is. I had my 2021 Malibu with the 1.5L and loved it. I thought it had more than enough power to do what I needed and it returned excellent fuel economy. I do like my Bolt, but wish I had the Malibu seats and I will say the Malibu was overall just a little more quiet. If I could get the current Malibu in PHEV or EV, that would have been my choice before the Bolt.

  5. Recently rented one. The continuously-variable transmission performs erratically, and there are delays between throttle inputs and engine speeds. Malibu was a better performer 2-3 years ago. Engineering is regressing on this vehicle.

  6. Ideally GM should have retained Chevy Volt which is a wonderful plugin with 53 mile electric range and 42 MPG gas mileage. They killed it hurriedly and keeping Malibu which we dont know what %age is retail sale.

Tesla Model 3 beats this car in global sales by a big factor and is evening coming closer to Camry.

Surprisingly GM wants to redesign Malibu.

  8. My wife & I don’t get around as fast as we did, but we both like power, & comfort more than ever before, & would like to buy another Malibu Premier. We don’t live under a bridge but price is a biggy, also. The Premier was fantastic but can’t seem to find a new one close. The closest was Bangladesh. Yeah, RIGHT!! We want a good American car AND TRUCK. Won’t buy ELECTRIC, because that would be spitting on the graves of all the men who died fighting Chinese Communists. Korea and Vietnam!!!

  9. Do the Chinese Communist have total control of our cars/economy? This is like the “Twilight Zone”. No one is going to notice all this crap with cars and EVERYTHING ELSE until way too late, if it’s not already.
