The GMC Yukon is a premium full-size SUV from Big Red that offers much in the way of features and amenities. However, due to the nature of body-on-frame SUVs, performance specs from the Yukon may be considered lacking by some owners. To help remedy this issue, Hennessey Performance offers a supercharger kit for select Yukon units that cranks the performance knob up to 11.
Dubbed the H650 package, Hennessey Performance has taken this GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate – which is equipped as standard from the factory with the 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque – and straps a supercharger on top. Thanks to the added boost, this takes total output of the SUV up to 650 horsepower and 658 pound-feet of torque.
The performance upgrades aren’t exclusive to the engine bay either. Hennessey also offers customers the ability to equip their Yukon with lightweight 22-inch wheels and massive six-piston Brembo brakes for an additional price. What’s more, the aftermarket tuning company even includes a three-year/36,000-mile warranty with every ‘H650’ purchase.
With an extra 230 horsepower over stock – and a warranty to boot – this performance package certainly takes the Yukon from an everyday family hauler to an all-around performer.
While 650 horsepower and 658 pound-feet of torque certainly sounds enticing, how does this compare to a stock vehicle? Well, GM Authority covered this exact question, as Hennessey Performance has previously pitted a Yukon equipped with the H650 package against a stock Cadillac Escalade. As was no surprise to most, the Yukon easier handed the Caddy a sizable defeat.
So, dear reader, what do you think? Is this performance package just what the Yukon needed, or is it overkill for the full-size SUV’s purpose? Let us know in the comments section below.
