GM’s Baojun EQ100 MPV Pre-Orders Starting In China

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), General Motors’ second joint venture in China, has just announced that pre-orders for the all-new Baojun EQ100 MPV will begin this week in the Asian country.

The all-new Baojun EQ100 was officially unveiled in early May as the first all-electric multipurpose vehicle developed by SGMW, with which the automaker will compete in the popular MPV segment in China. Now, the company is ready to start receiving the first pre-orders for the vehicle a few weeks before its launch on the Chinese market.

In fact, while SGMW announced the pre-order period start for the all-new Baojun EQ100, it also revealed that the MPV will initally be available in a range of three sky-inspired colors called Cloud Sea White, Cloud Twilight Purple and Cloud Smoke Qing from the Mandarin translation. The EQ100’s body tones match the Chinese name “云朵” the model will be sold under, which can be translated as “Clouds.”

In addition, the Chinese name that will be used to market the all-new Baojun EQ100 in the domestic market of that country also influences the design philosophy of the vehicle, characterized by multiple smooth lines and rounded shapes inspired by clouds that give it a clean appearance and highly distinctive. As such, it represents an evolution of the “Interstellar Geometry” language that includes a new horizontal light signature on both the front and back.

As GM Authority exclusively reported since it was first captured sporting the Wuling logo, the all-new Baojun EQ100 is a subcompact-sized MPV with traditional proportions, including a raked A-pillar and a long wheelbase that creates short overhangs and a generous glass surface. The EQ100 measures 169 inches long, 72.8 inches wide and 65 inches tall, with a 106.3-inch wheelbase.

Pre-orders for the all-new Baojun EQ100 MPV begin during this last week of June, and the vehicle’s official launch in China is scheduled for some time in the third quarter of the year, possibly in August according to some Chinese media sources. Full details of the EQ100, including the interior design, powertrain and trim levels will be revealed closer to the launch date.
