A total of 2,590 units of the beefy EV rolled off assembly lines in May, an increase of almost 44 percent over the 1,800 Hummer EV vehicles manufactured in April 2023. Production has been ramping up consistently since 504 Hummer EVs were built in February and 975 in March at the  GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan, formerly known as the Detroit-Hamtramck facility.
Production of the GMC Hummer EV was shut down entirely during December 2022 and January 2023, with zero units produced in either month. The production pause enabled GM to upgrade the Factory Zero facility ahead of starting to produce the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV at the facility.
GMC Hummer EV production has now reached 5,869 units during 2023 up to the end of May, meaning that more than half of Hummer EV units ever produced were made in the first five months of this year.
The 2024 Hummer EV introduced two new trim levels, the 2 and 2X, in addition to the 3X trim. The 2 and 2X trim levels are each motivated by a two-motor powertrain, with a single GM Ultium Drive motor mounted to each axle.
However, while start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup is set to kick off on June 23rd, production of the 2 and 2X trims in the Pickup configuration will be delayed. GM Authority does not yet have firm information on when production of these two trim levels will actually begin.
GM also plans to release the Omega Edition of the Hummer EV as part of the 2024 model year. The limited-edition model will feature an exclusive Neptune Blue Matte exterior paint color and unique wheels. Additionally, it will offer enhanced off-road capabilities. It will be equipped with the Extreme Off-Road Package (RPO code Z6X) as standard and will also get LT305/70R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, full underbody skid plates, and other rugged accessories.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV uses the GM BT1 platform for structure. GM Ultium batteries supply power to GM Ultium Drive motors for motivation with output varying between 625 horsepower and 1,000 horsepower depending on the trim level and configuration.

It’s really sad that GM can’t get other more needed and important EV’s in the hands of buyers, yet they are somehow ramping up production of these fat pigs. Buick is starving for product and has zero EV’s in the US. Cadillac can’t seem to fill sold orders for new customers. Chevrolet can’t get Bolts into the hands of buyers of sold cars (and yes, I know the batteries are not the same in the Bolt and the Hummer). But I’m making a point that GM’s priorities are so messed up right now. And this pig is taking up resources that are badly needed for higher volume vehicles.
They dont make money on the cheapy SUVs something north of 50K before they even break even
Elon must be scared to death
Of what? I don’t like Musk, but he’s killing it in the EV field and chances are nobody on the planet will catch up with Tesla in the EV only market.
Of big bad Hummer production numbers of course. They are almost equal to one hour of Tesla production.
lol. Got it now. How true.
Tesla vehicles are very poorly built! I would even take crappy Ford vehicle over a Tesla any time!
I can only speak for our Tesla which has been a good car but could use refinement in the interior and closer fits on the exterior. We will be buying a new EV late this year and Tesla will be on our shopping list. Based on their current record of slow production and slower shipping a GM EV will not be on that list.
Hopefully Chevy can deliver my Corvette Z06 this fall as dealer projects. Dealer has always kept me in the loop and no hollow promises.
Nah, he’s doing fine and is continuing to sale his EV’s at more reasonable prices in comparison to gm.
Over 9,000 lbs of crap… NINE THOUSAND POUNDS. That’s just a lot of material in general. What a waste.
Some other approximate curb weights, just for reference:
1969 Camaro = Just over 3,000 lbs
1969 Chevy Truck = Just over 3,500 lbs
1985 Camaro = Somewhere around 3,200 lbs
1985 Cadillac Fleetwood = 4,000 lbs
1990 Chevy 454SS truck with the big heavy big block = 4,400 lbs
2021 RAM TRX with the hellcat and all the upgrades = 6,400 lbs
But this Hummer EV monstrosity is OVER 9,000 lbs!!! Unreal.
The Hummer is heavier than a 2023 fully loaded 1 ton dually Silverado/Sierra, which happens to be the heaviest ICE consumer vehicle GM builds.
Yes, thats more than 4 tons. Rivian R1T is of similar dimensions, but much lesser weight shows that its well engineered.
GM just wanted to build a heaviest passenger vehicle to claim bragging rights.
the 210 KWh battery that goes into eHummer can instead be deployed in 3 Chevy Bolts.
Still wondering why GM killed Bolt.
The Rivian is smaller, has a smaller bed, not as wide, and has less range (smaller pack).
Just about 1,000 lbs less than a Short Yellow School Bus, but the reality shows that there are plenty of people who did well enough with their finances in order to have one, even if we choose to criticize them, I can respect that reality and respect your point as well.
A battery that weighs almost 3000lbs…just a toy for the rich and famous needing a tax break
What … 10,899 units produced.
In 2022, only 854 units were sold with just 2 units in 2023-Q1. Where did the remaining 9,000 units go.
Are there some issues that is stopping GM from delivering them.
I guess they intend to start selling only Tesla Cybertrk hits the market.
And MS media will claim that eHummer is beating Cybertrk by big margin.
I still believe Cybertrk will start selling only from 2024-01. In that case, is GM going to keep producing them and keeping in inventory. Lets see.
There are many interesting comments, but is this EV Hummer beast saving the planet? It’s a status symbol for the people who can afford them. The average American can not afford to pay 100++++ for a 9,000-pound gorilla that won’t fit in most home garages. GMs profit margin may be more significant on the Hummer than the lower-cost EVs but are they looking at the overall volume of EVs to make GM profitable in the EV market vs the ICE market? Time will tell.
Fits just fine in a standard garage. It is shorter than my crew cab and just as high and the crew cab fits fine.
being wider than silverado by 5″, it will be difficult to enter/exit garage when another vehicle is park or its a 1 car garage.
Even in a 2 car garage, if the other vehicle is another hummer, then near impossible to enter/exit.
I agree, I have a two-car garage and a full-sized SUV, and a mid-sized SUV and it is very tight. Looking at the dimension of the EV Hummer, there is no way I can get that in my garage with the full-sized SUV and it would be very tight with the mid-size SUV whereby it tough opening the doors, hence my original comment. I know garages come in many sizes and are not typically built to accommodate large vehicles.
So 2 years and 8 months since the first one rolled off the line, production is just now beginning to ramp up. GM’s manufacturing leadership is top notch. The same is true for the Lyric. So the track record coming into launch of the Silverado, Sierra, Equinox and Blazer EV’s is extremely foreboding. GM has lost billions in potential sales due to manufacturing not being able to meet the production goals. Yet Mary and GM and the board of directors are dead silent on all the lost money from this production debacle.
They were building a battery factory and upgrading it to build the Hummer SUV and Silverado EVs. Just because you don’t see vehicle output doesn’t mean things aren’t happening.
Why aren’t they building a new factory or upgrading the Bolling Green Corvette Factory? They cannot meet the current demand and they are adding the E-Ray in September and the ZR1 next year to the production line and possibly the Zora in 2025 which is only going to increase the wait time. I have been on the wait list for over two years for the Z06 and they said I probably will not take delivery for another two years. I asked for my deposit back. I am still on another dealer’s waitless for an E-Ray but not holding my breath. The bottom line, GM is getting mandates and financial incentives from the government to go all EV period. They have no incentive to continue to build ICE vehicles which in my opinion is going to bankrupt the auto industry.
There is a big difference between initial demand and long-term demand. Many cars have higher initial demand, but long-term demand is what you size factories for. Also, you have to understand the customer and the product.
GM knows the Corvette is in a unique market and a unique place in the market where there isn’t a lot of competition. If you’re not willing to wait what are the other realistic competitors? They are either inferior or a lot more expensive. So having you wait is a valid solution to the Corvette supply. Now if this was the ICE Silverado there are several other options on the market, so you want to try to meet demand as soon as possible. The same holds true for the Silverado EV. GM has the opportunity to be pretty early in the EV truck race with Ford and Ram coming later with their unique EV truck solutions. I don’t count the F150 Lightning which is just an F150 with batteries shoved into the frame.
Like it or not EVs are coming and GM can’t just stick their head in the sand and hope it doesn’t catch on because Tesla is already selling 2 million+ vehicles a year. With that 2 million Tesla has higher profits and lower warranty costs (EVs are simpler).
I don’t disagree with anything you said. My only point is the Corvette is GM’s flagship sports car. They have done an excellent job marketing, designing, and promoting the C8, ZO6, E-Ray, and now the ZR1 so much so, the demand is off the charts which is great for GM. Yet all that said, they are limited on how many they can produce without expanding their production facility, yet they refused to address this issue. GM is losing long-time Corvette customers and potential new customers on a daily because they can’t deliver. The current Corvette process of deposit, waitlist, order, production, and delivery takes 3-4 years is totally unacceptable.
