Currently positioned atop the Chevy crossover totem pole, the Chevy Traverse has been picking up steam as of late when it comes to sales figures. Now, the Bow Tie brand’s full-size crossover just posted one of its strongest months of sales.
Over the course of May 2023, the Chevy Traverse posted excellent sales figures. In fact, the crossover registered its best numbers for a month of May since the 2019 calendar year, when GM delivered 14,804 units in that month alone. That year, a total of 147,122 Traverse units were driven off dealer lots.
It’s worth noting that sales of the Traverse have been increasing as of late. In fact, when compared to figures from the previous year, sales have risen more than 34 percent to 31,533 units in Q1 2023. This places the Bow Tie brand’s full-size crossover in third place in its segment.
Chevrolet Traverse Sales - Q1 2023 - United States
In the United States, Chevrolet Traverse deliveries totaled 31,533 units in Q1 2023, an increase of about 34 percent compared to 23,464 units sold in Q1 2022.MODEL | Q1 2023 / Q1 2022 | Q1 2023 | Q1 2022 |
---|---|---|---|
TRAVERSE | +34.39% | 31,533 | 23,464 |
This development comes as inventory levels of the Traverse actually fell slightly for May 2023, where there were approximately 7,300 units on the ground at dealerships, with another 6,600 en route. This gave the full-size crossover a 17 days supply, meaning there is sufficient Traverse inventory in dealerships to last roughly 17 days at the current sales pace.
For those who may be unaware, the Chevy Traverse is set receive a new generation for the 2024 model year, and will be the first of three next-gen, full-size crossovers to be released, with the next-gen GMC Acadia set to launch soon afterwards, and the next-gen Buick Enclave set to launch one model year later.
All three next-gen crossovers will be manufactured at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant, meaning that production of the GMC Acadia will be moved from the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee to the Lansing Delta Township facility.
All three are expected to ride on an updated version of the GM C1 platform known internally as C1-2.
As far as the current 2023 Traverse is concerned, the Bow Tie crossover is available exclusively with the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, while the GM nine-speed automatic transmission directs the power to the ground.

Had mine for a month now. Love it!
What are the implications of moving from a 6 cylinder to a turbocharged 4 cylinder in this suv?
Disappointment.
Sales are high because there is not much to pick from.
Will there be an optional 6 cyl for 2024? Or only turbo 4?
I traded my 2016 GMC Acadia SLT-2 for a 2023 Traverse Premier. It’s a beautiful vehicle and while I’ve only had it a month, it’s equally as nice as my previous vehicle. Part of my decision to quickly buy the 2023 was the unknowns about the next model. I sure as hell didn’t want a smaller vehicle, part of not wanting a 2023 Acadia and considering the fact our GMC dealer sucks after it was sold to a new owner. Also of concern was not wanting a 4 cylinder turbo motor. The 2023 Chevrolet kept me in a 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 which I can live with.
