Chevy Silverado HD Recalled For Inadequate Diesel Fuel Pump Flow

GM has issued a product safety recall for certain units of the 2017 to 2019 Chevy Silverado HD pickup truck equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine and the dual fuel tank feature (RPO code N2N) that may have a defect related to the rear fuel pump.
The problem: affected vehicles, including the 2017 to 2019 Chevy Silverado HD and certain units of the 2017 to 2019 GMC Sierra HD, may have an issue causing the rear fuel pump to transfer inadequate fuel from the auxiliary fuel tank to the front fuel tank.
The hazards: if the rear fuel pump fails to transfer adequate fuel from the auxiliary fuel tank to the front fuel tank in affected 2017 to 2019 Chevy Silverado HD trucks, the affected vehicle could stall. Depending on where the stall occurs, the problem could increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: GM has instructed dealerships to inspect affected Chevy Silverado HD units and replace the auxiliary fuel tank and/or auxiliary fuel tank pump module if the components are found to be damaged. The dealer service personnel are also instructed to install a new vent hose (also called the diesel auxiliary fuel tank vent line) on the recalled vehicle’s real fuel tank assembly to prevent the problem’s reoccurrence.
GM further notifies dealers that affected Chevy Silverado HD units currently in inventory cannot be sold, delivered, traded to other dealerships, or used for demonstrations until the required fix has been applied. Delivering a vehicle without first carrying out the repair is a violation of federal law.
Affected components: auxiliary fuel tank, auxiliary fuel tank fuel pump module.
Affected vehicles:
- 2017 Chevy Silverado HD
- 2018 Chevy Silverado HD
- 2019 Chevy Silverado HD
- 2017 GMC Sierra HD
- 2018 GMC Sierra HD
- 2019 GMC Sierra HD
Number of affected vehicles: GM says that a total of only 186 vehicles, including both Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickup trucks, are affected.
Because of the small number of vehicles involved, the automaker recommends that dealers do not order the required parts as shelf stock but only when the repair is to be applied to an affected unit.
Owners should: owners of affected Chevy Silverado HD units who have additional questions or comments can call the Chevrolet customer service number listed below, referencing the GM recall number.

This has been a problem with Chevrolet and GMC vehicles for decades with dual fuel tanks. On C4500’s and C5500’s the rear fuel pumps always go bad, ( the rear fuel pump is just a cheap transfer pump to the front fuel tank ) the modules go bad, and the result is always engine stalling when your fuel gauge says you have almost a half tank of fuel.
Ford has the answer, 2 fuel tanks and 2 full pressure and volume fuel pumps in both tanks. And a switch on the dashboard to switch between them ( even as your driving down the road )
