Inventory levels across the United States of the Chevy Malibu were low in the beginning of June 2023, GM Authority sources close with the matter tell us.
There were less than 1,500 units of the Chevy Malibu on the ground at dealerships as of June 1st, with an additional 650 examples of the midsize sedan en route to dealers. This gives the Malibu a 17 days supply, which means there is sufficient inventory for 17 days at the current sales pace. For reference, a 60 days supply is considered optimal.
Notably, this is the lowest days supply figure of the Malibu so far this year. In March 2023, the Bow Tie brand’s midsize sedan had a 36 days supply, and before that, a 49 days supply in February 2023.
This decreased level of inventory is contrasted by the Malibu’s recent sales boom. In fact, sales of the midsize sedan have risen more than 45 percent to 37,438 units as compared to Q1 2022 numbers, making the Malibu the Bow Tie brand’s third best-selling nameplate in the U.S.

With that in mind, it may come as no surprise that General Motors is currently planning to release another generation of the sedan, despite the industry-wide transition to crossovers and all-electric vehicles.
As a reminder, the current 2023 Malibu is only available with one drivetrain configuration. This includes the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LFV gasoline engine, rated at 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Previously, the Malibu lineup featured an additional engine option, the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG, rated at 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, matched to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, that powertrain combination was dropped as the Premier trim level was replaced with the 2LT.
Under the body panels, the 2023 Malibu rides on the GM E2 platform, while production began back on September 7th, 2022 at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City. The upcoming 2024 Malibu is set to kick off production at the same facility late June 2023, while dealers can begin placing orders on June 15th.

Price must be its selling point. Malibu has nothing else going for it.
Good for rent a car fleets the number plate on the car is from ?
Even though I’m not happy with GM and the decisions they have been making, I need to defend the Malibu here. I see the other first two comments above seem to bash the car. That’s totally uncalled for.
I work at a Mazda and Volvo store. Volvo has some of the nicest interiors out there IMO, and the Malibu I had (2021 1LT) was nice even compared to the Volvo’s. It was nicer than the Mazda’s or on par with them. I’ve been in a lot of newer (2018 on up) Honda’s, Toyota’s, Nissan’s, Kia’s and others while using Uber/Lyft. The Malibu I had was better than most of those. The tech on my car was as good or better than most. The materials were on par or nicer than most. The seats were super comfy and I can only wish my Bolt had the seats from that Malibu. It was quiet, got great MPG, road very nice, handled very nice and was an overall great vehicle. I even liked the 1.5 as it was smooth and more quiet than many with adequate performance.
Can GM improve the Malibu? Sure. Should they? Sure. Should they keep it? Yes, and offer a new model soon with both gas and EV with the same body style.
A lots of koreans hope to see chevy malibu again in Korea. If Next-Gen Malibu built in Bupyeong 2 plant again -of course alongside with fairfax-, that will be great cashcow. They already provide great quality cars for overseas customers like middle east.
