Buick LeSabre Tows Ford Explorer And Camping Trailer: Video

Cars are capable of some truly amazing things, but just because a car can do something does not necessarily mean it should be done. This new viral video is a pretty good example of that, showing a Buick LeSabre simultaneously towing a massive travel trailer and a Ford Explorer in what can only be described as a daisy chain of bad ideas.

Recently making its way onto social media, the video is just 15 seconds long, and appears as though it was captured by another motorist.

Travel trailer towed by a Buick LeSabre in a new viral video.

The video opens on a highway, where we see a large travel trailer rolling down the road. The trailer is connected to what appears to be a bottomed-out pickup truck bed. However, as the camera moves forward, we see the pickup bed is actually detached from the truck and is acting a fifth-wheel trailer hitch, connected to the rear end of a Ford Explorer.

Not exactly an ideal setup, to be sure. However, the bad ideas get worse as the camera continues to pan over to left, where we see a tow strap connecting the Ford Explorer to a Buick LeSabre. The rear end of the Buick is completely bottomed out, and there appears to be a mountain of junk on the rear seat.

“Bam!” the person behind the camera exclaims while panning over the Buick LeSabre, laughing. “Nothing but horsepower! Check it out!”

Clearly, this is an absurdly bad idea, and for so many obvious reasons. At the same time, we can’t help but be a bit impressed that this train is actually cruising down the freeway at speed. None of the vehicles (or bits of vehicles) involved were designed for this sort of thing, and yet, the train is moving at a fairly quick pace. Of course, if anything goes wrong, it’ll end extremely badly.

  3. It’s so scary what dump people will do. Oh how I wish I were still a police officer and saw this in motion. I’d have writers cramp from writing those tickets. And to think my children are on these same roadways as these morons.

    1. Of course you’d have writer’s cramp. You had your quota to meet, and this was certainly easy pickings.

  4. My 2007 Buick Lucerne, with the 3800 V6, has towed my ~2,000 pound boat trailer for thousands of miles without issue. I replaced my rear air shocks with spring-assisted load assist standard shocks, and added a transmission cooler. I’ve also towed the large 12ft enclosed U-Haul trailers with it over the years. I get 17-20mpg highway while towing, which is pretty phenomenal. I think the big reason so many sedans have such low tow ratings in the USA is liability over brake performance on steep highway grades. Here in the flatlands of the Midwest, that has never been issue. I do get a few funny looks at the boat ramp when my old-man sedan starts backing down the ramp, but it pulls the boat out of the water easy peasy.
