As GM Authority exclusively teased earlier this month, General Motors has just officially launched the all-new Buick Electra E4 in China.
The automaker’s main joint venture in China launched the all-new Buick Electra E4 during a special event in the city of Shanghai on June 19th, when it revealed all the details of the vehicle and started the order process for Buick’s all-electric crossover coupe. The Electra E4 is the brand’s second vehicle based on the Ultium architecture and introduces the sporty GS moniker for the first time on a zero-emissions model.
“The Electra E4 is an important addition to Buick’s growing electric vehicle family. Its premium sophistication and intelligent features reflect Buick’s progress in the new era of electrification,” said General Director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Cesar Toledo. “Together with the Electra E5, the Electra E4 will position the brand at the forefront of China’s mainstream EV segment for today’s stylish and sophisticated consumers, especially the younger generation,” he added.
In particular, the all-new Buick Electra E4 arrives in China with a very aggressive price range, along with a total of four variants across Smart, Premium and GS trim levels. All come standard with plenty of technology and safety features, including the new Buick Virtual Cockpit with the 30-inch Eyemax 6K curved display and a full suite a driver assist systems. Super Cruise is offered as optional equipment.
On a mechanical level, the Buick Electra E4’s base powertrain consists of a front-mounted motor that develops 180 kW or 241 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, fed by a 65 kWh Ultium Battery pack with a CLTC range of 530 km or 329 miles. For its part, the GS AWD adds an additional rear Ultium Drive motor for a maximum output of 211 kW or 283 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque, with a range of 620 km or 385 miles.
The all-new Buick Electra E4 is now available to order at Buick’s official dealer network and deliveries will begin during the third quarter of the year in China, the only country where the Tri-Shield brand’s new model will be manufactured and sold. The Electra E4 is positioned below the all-new Buick Electra E5 with a more dynamic and emotional approach, aimed at a younger customer profile. Here are the launch prices:
- Electra E4 Smart: 189,900 yuan (about $26,520 USD at the current exchange rate)
- Electra E4 Premium: 209,900 yuan ($29,320 USD)
- Electra E4 GS: 219,900 yuan ($30,710 USD)
- Electra E4 GS AWD: 259,900 yuan ($36,300 USD)

I can see why it’s not being offered in the US. Though it looks pretty sharp compared to others on the market, the two closest Buick dealers have dropped the franchise because of the high cost of the GM requirement to purchase all the new equipment needed to maintain electric vehicles. Guess I bought my last Buick.
It’ll be in the US once the batteries become available.
Maybe from that dealership, but go a few miles down the road to the smart dealership that spent the reasonably small cost to buy into the future, and these amazing new Buick products!
The distant future… there is going to be an oversupply of cars especially evs once all the free money dries up and people start losing their jobs the fed is adamant
no one can say honestly say EVs are cost effective when you add the 20K extra on average you pay for one plus people still want the big SUVs that can haul 8 people and all their cargo no EV can do that
If they were smart and wanted to buy into the future, they’d switch to any other brand than Buick.
in which colour do you prefer ?
GREEN!
Both!!!! Not sure if that’s a light gray/purple – or if it’s just the lighting in the top 2 pics. If so it’s gorgeous. Buick needs to mix-up its color pallet, both of these project premium (over the current copper ice or sunrise red metallic) .
The green looks similar to the cacti green offered on the Trax – sharp.
Excellent design, pricing and its dimensions are length: 189.7 inches (4,818 mm), width 75.3 in (1,912 mm) , height 62.2 in (1,581 mm). Will Equinox EV get at least a sub $32K price tag. Lets see.
Starting from Jul 1, with new emission rules going into effect, we can see a sharp uptick in EV sales there.
Finally Buick looks premium. At first I thought E4 looked like a super Honda or Mazda, but it has bells and whistles on par with luxury.
I could see Buick growing in the US with a car like thus that takes on Tesla and surpasses Ford and Hyandai
Those sure look like Caddy CT tail lights.
I’ll be more interested in EVs if they can get a better range for the cars. Right now they wouldn’t be practical for a long trip.
I can say that EVs are cost effective for many people. If you have a garage and most of your trips are under 100 miles a day, then an EV is not just cost effective, it is way cheaper to own and operate. EVs no longer cost $20k more than gas vehicles. Look at GM as an example. There least expensive vehicle is a 1.2 liter gas engined Trax. In theory it is about $22,000, but most are equipped to sell for much more. By contrast, the Bolt costs only a few thousand more dollars. When you recharge it you will pay about one third per mile of what a gas engined vehicle costs to run. Remember the cost and inconvenience of oil changes? That goes away with an EV. Remember the cost of a brake job? Yes the Bolt has brakes, but they will last at least twice as long as your gas vehicle’s brakes. Oh, and that Bolt is much more nicely equipped than the Trax. Need to travel hundreds of miles a day or to tow or haul thousands of pounds of payload? Buy a gas powered vehicle. They are more practical at this point for long trips or heavy work than an EV is, but for most the EV is already the more cost effective.
Good practical review of the reasons to purchase an EV. I can see at least one EV in the garages of USA homes in the next 10 years. We’ll have to wait & see how they (the EV’s) develop before we go all out-
These types of vehicles need to be offed in the US as well, not just to China!
What is the range of the e4 and e5?
