As GM Authority previously covered, select GMC Sierra models were upgraded to a tilt and telescoping steering column due to a constraint of the manual tilt column. Now, the supply issue has been resolved on the 2024 GMC Sierra HD.
The Tilt-Wheel manual tilt steering column (RPO code N33) feature is available once more. Previously, this option was placed under constraint as of February 2023 production, but has returned from June 5th, 2023 production onwards.
Normally, the Tilt-Wheel manual adjustment with wheel locking option is equipped as standard on Pro and SLE trim levels. During this constraint, affected trucks were upgraded to the manual tilt and telescoping steering column (RPO code N37).
It’s worth noting that the manual tilt and telescoping steering column is normally available as an option on SLE units, and featured as standard fare on SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trims.
For those who may have missed it, the GMC Sierra HD lineup received a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year. This revision is highlighted by the introduction of the range-topping Denali Ultimate trim level, along with a revised exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit and powertrain enhancements. In addition, an all-new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X is also on the way later this year.
In regard to powertrain, the 2024 Sierra HD features the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard fare on most trims, while the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional on most trims. The Duramax boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, up by 25 horsepower and 65 pound-feet over the pre-refreshed models. The Duramax is equipped as standard on the Denali Ultimate.
Regardless of engine option, every GMC Sierra HD is equipped with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the GM six-speed automatic previously found in gasoline-powered configurations.
As for structure, the Sierra HD rides on a more capable variant of the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD. Production kicked off in May 2023 at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.
