First introduced for the 2009 model year, the Chevy Traverse crossover got its second generation for the 2018 model year. As such, GM is currently developing an all-new third generation for the nameplate, set to launch with the upcoming 2024 Chevy Traverse. Now, GM Authority is detailing everything we know and expect for the next-gen 2024 Chevy Traverse with the following breakdown.
Model Line
The 2024 Chevy Traverse is expected to introduce several changes to the model line, including the addition of a new off-road-oriented Z71 model, as GM Authority was the first to report. In addition, the High Country trim level will be deleted with the upcoming generational overhaul, while the RS trim will likely be replaced by a new RST (Rally Sport Truck) trim, once again per GM Authority exclusive reports.
Exterior
Outside, expect an all-new exterior design that lends the 2024 Chevy Traverse a more truck-like appearance, similar to a GM Design sketch released previously. The look will incorporate dual-tier headlights that follow Chevy’s “High Brow” design language, plus forward-leaning C-pillars, large-diameter wheels, and quad exhaust tips.
Interior
The next-gen Traverse will feature an overhauled cabin with more space and improved ergonomics. New colors and materials will be offered, in particular with the Z71 trim, as will a new steering wheel. A new infotainment spec will also be on board, including a revised gauge cluster and fully digital cluster offered higher in the trim level lineup. There will be new safety features as well, plus the GM Super Cruise system.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Traverse will cradle the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, per yet another GM Authority exclusive. Output is expected to hit at roughly 300 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, flowing through the GM nine-speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels as standard, or all four wheels as optional.
Platform
Under the new body, the 2024 Chevy Traverse will ride on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform with several new improvements for the new generation. The crossover will also incorporate the Global B digital architecture.
Availability
The all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse will be offered in North America, as well as select export markets .
Production
Production will take place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. Look for the 2024 Chevy Traverse to start rolling off the line late this coming December.

Was looking forward to the 2024 Acadia. But, thank you, I’m glad I bought the 3.6, 2023 Traverse LT.
Another change to small turbo engines with questionable reliability and in need of premium gas, it’s getting hard to buy GM vehicles which I been doing for a long time, better buy a Blazer before they stop making the 3.6.
Huh, the 2.7 doesn’t need premium and it has been one of the most durable and hard to kill motors in testing, it is built like a diesel. That 2.7 (which the 2.5 will be similar to) has better reliability than the 3.6 it is looking like and I don’t see them making the 2.5 recommend premium seeing that class and types of buyers they are having to go after. Nice try though, your statement was incorrect on so many levels…
Truth… I thought the same thing until I bought one the turbo 4 is better then ANY V6 I have ever owned plus it has a smaller gas tank and is better on fuel… Just keep up on oil changes and maintenance and there should be no problem . I mean the V6 in our enclave is nice but around town it goes through fuel…. Don’t think of 1990s or 2000s engines these turbo 4 cylinders are for economy not HP like in a lotus or mini Cooper! And yes they can pull my 2.0 T in my 2020 equinox will light up the tires a little in FWD mode! Oh and if I want it can haul upto 3500plds I imagine the traverse being more expensive will be even better! My friend has the 1.5 equinox the only problem they ever had was the hose for the turbo came loose he fixed it on his way to buffalo NY!
Should have kept the V-6 for the front-drivers.
And add supercharger to the line!!! Remember “SS”
Remember “SS”
Let’s hope GM beancounters don’t leave it with cheap plastics and limited features. It’s a sad reoccurring theme that GM does this and hopes nobody notices. But everyone notices and they suffer the self-inflicted wound of limited sales. The Kia Telluride is an example of many competitor beneficiaries when GM cuts corners.
Why not just put a 3 cyl nissan junk motoring it
Electric model?
Drop in a 5.3L, call it an SS let it run on regular gas or a nice HP jump by running on E85. I’d trade in my 21 redline tomorrow. GM needs a performance oriented SUV.
