2024 Chevy Tahoe And Suburban To Offer Active Exhaust System

GM is set to refresh its full-size SUV lineup for the 2024 model year, and that includes the fifth-generation Chevy Tahoe and twelfth-generation Chevy Suburban. Both the 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban are set to introduce a wealth of updates and changes, as GM Authority has covered previously. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban will also offer an active exhaust system.

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST heads down a city street.

According to GM Authority sources, the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban will offer a dual active exhaust system tagged with RPO code NPP. Notably, the same dual active exhaust system will also be introduced on the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. The dual active exhaust system for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 will only be available in conjunction with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and this will likely be the case for the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban as well.

For those readers who may be unaware, the dual active exhaust system provides a throatier, more aggressive exhaust note when desired. It’s likely the exhaust note will differ depending on the drive mode selected, such as the new Sport mode.

As a reminder, the current Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban offer a total of three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three engines connect to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

Looking ahead, the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban are expected to introduce new exterior styling, an overhauled cabin with a larger infotainment screen, new tech features, and finally, the new 3.0L LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine as a replacement for the current LM2 Duramax.

  1. They need to offer the Turbomax with a 10 speed to replace the 5.3. The 5.3’s numbers for a V8 are a little underwhelming these days, and the 6.2 is essentially the same exact engine other than displacement. The 10 speed could give the Turbomax the fuel economy that everyone expected out of it.

  2. I have gmc 2021 what is Gm doing about oil consumption I am not happy about having new vehicle that uses oil

    1. Mr. Troiani: “New”: compared to 2023, your GMC is not new it’s 2 years old. Uses oil?! You must have not read the specs on it’s capabilities. Also if it uses oil: diagnose it before speculating. Have the engines gaskets been blown?!

      1. I think OP means a modern vehicle shouldn’t burn oil. As a so called enthusiast you should know and understand that GM has an ongoing issue with thier V8’s consuming oil dating back to the Gen 4 small block. Its easy to come to this conclusion just by checking your oil level 1500 miles after a oil change to see that you’re a quart low. Its not normal or acceptable.

  3. Active exhaust system??? Throatier, more aggressive exhaust note??? Is it April 1st? What does this option offer besides additional cost and noise? Oh, I know, something else to go wrong that has nothing to do with getting from point A to point B safely, economically, and comfortably. How about gm offering some options that customers actually want and have been clamoring for, like adjustable pedals, a transmission selector on the column, vehicle attributes that work reliably for more that 3 years, etc., etc.

  6. Dumbest thing I’ve heard yet! I own a 2019 Yukon XL 5.3 and it’s plenty throaty when you push it. They’re not race cars! Mine doesn’t burn a drop of oil either. Factory serviced since new. Stop trying to make something it isn’t!

  7. How about the valve train problems. Wearing lobes of the camshaft. Not good is GM doing anything about that.
