2024 Chevy Camaro To Offer Matte Black Paint

The 2024 Chevy Camaro is the final model year for the sports car’s sixth generation, offering up a few interesting bits and pieces before the sixth-gen officially fades into the sunset. One of the most important of these is the launch of the new 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition, a special variant complete with unique features, including a matte black paint option.

The matte black paint is officially dubbed Panther Black Matte, and is tagged with paint code GNW. Critically, Panther Black Matte is the first factory matte paint option ever offered for the Chevy Camaro.

The Panther Black Matte name is a nod to the first-gen Camaro from the ‘60s, specifically the program’s “Panther” code name. Further Panther-themed homages are made elsewhere with the Collector’s Edition package. For example, the package also includes Panther Black Metallic Tricoat paint when equipped on LT/RS, LT1, and SS trim levels, while Panther Black Matte is exclusive to ZL1 trim levels.

Notably, the Panther Black Matte paint on offer with the Collector’s Edition package for the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 has the same GNW paint code as the Maverick Noir Frost paint option offered exclusively for the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Track Edition, specifically the IMSA Sebring Edition, limited to just 99 units total. Maverick Noir Frost served as an indirect replacement for the satin Dark Emerald Frost paint offered for the 2022 model-year Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. Additionally, Maverick Noir Frost was offered for the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, once again with an identical GNW paint code.

For anyone who remembers just how expensive Maverick Noir Frost was for the two Blackwing sedans ($8,120 when optioned for the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing), it should come as no surprise that the Collector’s Edition package for the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 is quite expensive as well. The package alone is $14,995, which, combined with the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1’s base MSRP and destination freight charge ($73,695), brings us to a total of $88,690. Of course, the package includes much more than just the paint, but regardless, the matte finish is likely a big chunk of that final total.

Orders for the 2024 Chevy Camaro kick off next week. Production begins in August.

  1. my 1976 Rally Sport had a flat black hood and roof – is matte and flat different?

    1. Morning RT. They are different in a very subtle way. A matte finish (which some people refer to it as a velvet finish) has a very very low-gloss, so it has a slight shine. A flat finish is just that; flat and does not reflect light.

      1. So, it’s not flat black, but SATIN black. Sorry, I’m waiting for GREEN! Guess I’ll be dead before that happens.

  2. Suede colors on cars have been going in for decades. My dad did it in the 50s and my first was a blue suede and scalloped ’66 Suburban in 1982. John Deere black works great and under a hundred bucks.

  3. I’m on with a matte finish on part of the hood for glare control but not on the whole car. No thanks.

  4. Let’s make it completely ugly, so be sure it has black wheels too.

  5. A big NO for matte finishes in any color.

  6. The 2024 final edition Camaro seems more like a kick out the door than a grand send off.

  7. How to make a decent looking car ugly. Matte finish and black wheels. Utterly tasteless!

  8. Figured that with all the foot dragging exhibited by GM, that this would be a real disappointment. No orders from me.
Black paint and decals; can’t wait to see how ugly they will make the electric Camaro.

  9. When I see a car with crap paint like this, I immediately ask them what happened? Did your car get hit by acid rain?

  10. So the “special paint” is not even unique to the camaro it is just a repurposed Cadillac color?? Even more disappointing GM. I bet we will find out the panther black tri coat is Cadillac diamond black as well. What a Joke!!! Nothing on this car is unique. So sad I waited hoping they would have done something better.

  11. In my generation we would call this primer.I agree with most of the comments. I expected a lot more from GM. The Camaro was never really changed from it’s recent inception. No wonder the sales went into the tank

  12. Reminds me of a little black composite airplane from Lockheed I worked on back in the 80’s… but we called that ‘paint’ suede.

  13. That looks AMAZING!!!! The 6th gen was truly a hidden gem that only few got to experience, compared to how many Mustangs and Challengers that were sold. Even anyone that’s had a Cadillac ATS, amazing chassis.

  14. I dont understand how so many people in the comments don’t like the satin silver, I think it looks AMAZING, like some James Bond 007 car. Badass AF. That bright red/blue/yellow/orange colors arent for me, but a good silver or black is just classy.
