2023 GMC Canyon Does Not Offer Universal Home Remote

For the all-new generation, the 2023 GMC Canyon features a complete overhaul for the exterior, interior and powertrain specifications. That being said, despite all the new features and technologies Big Red’s midsize pickup truck received, a Universal Home Remote was not among them.
The Universal Home Remote (RPO code UG1) option is not available for the 2023 Canyon. Also known as a garage door opener feature or Homelink, this option was also not available on the preceding generation of Big Red’s midsizer.
For context, Homelink is a vehicle-based wireless control system that allows users to remotely open or close their garage doors or front gates, as well as activate and deactivate their home’s security systems. Additionally capabilities include the ability to toggle interior and exterior lighting, appliances and other electronics on or off, all from just three buttons integrated in an applicable vehicle’s interior.
Interestingly, the 2023 Canyon isn’t the only GMC product that isn’t available with this option, as the GMC Savana also doesn’t feature Homelink. Of course, the Savana has been largely unchanged from the 2003 model year, so it isn’t much surprise that the cargo van doesn’t offer a Universal Home Remote.
As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Canyon is only offered with one powertrain configuration, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Available exclusively in the High Output tune, this boosted four-pot produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Output is routed to the ground via the revised GM eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, RWD is standard on the starting Elevation trim level, while 4WD is available on the Elevation and standard on AT4, AT4X and Denali trims.
Under the body panels, the all-new Canyon rides on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, which it shares with the 2023 Chevy Colorado. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

A feature that I use daily in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler and 2020 Cadillac XT6. That’s bean counters justifying their jobs again just like the no physical light switch idea.
Disappointing. A sub 30k Subaru has the option but a truck that tops out near 70k doesn’t?
That’s crazy. This is a great feature. Cannot believe GM is not offering that on the Canyon and Colorado. I would love to have been in that PDT meeting when this decision was made.
Most of the new vehicles I’ve owned over the last 10 years or so wouldn’t work with my door opener anyway, so that is not a bigger for me.
Does anyone know what the measurement is from the passenger seat cushion to the ground? My wife has mobility issues and would be nice to know before I buy a new Canyon Denali.
looks like you need a new opener than. As far as the seat measurements, head to the dealer and measure it for yourself.
None of the dealers in a 300 mile radius of me have a Canyon Denali in stock. I called GM customer service and they have work at home people that aren’t able to answer many technical questions.
If you go on GMC website, they you get get a live person streaming showing you features of truck. You can ask them to measure. They do have tape measures and can give you the measurements you are looking for.
It doesn’t have to be a Denali, even a Colorado base model will get you the measurements you need. Then if they work, you can find or order a Denali.
Disappointed as well, but still loving my Canyon Elevation. Also on my last of “bring backs” is a cigarette/accessory lighter jack. None found in my Canyon. I had to get a socket that plugs into the ODB port to power my cooler for long trips. The addition of USB-C ports is welcomed, but I really want a cig lighter port.
Look inside center console it’s kinda hidden ….I have one their in my new 2023 Colorado I’m sure GMC Canyon has one as well.
GM failed to produce a vehicle comparable to its high price.
They struggle with delivery issues causing problems for dealers.
I don’t think the failed to produce a vehicle comparable to it’s price?
I picked up my 2023 Z71 3 weeks ago….and it blows the 2022 Tacoma I was previously driving out of the water in every single category . It has a ton more features, rides much better, handles much better, has much more power and gets better fuel mileage.
I really did like the body style on my 2022 Tacoma, however in my opinion my new 2023 Colorado Z71 looks even better.
Um, it is barely more than a comparable model from last year with tons more power, much better tech and an updated interior with new styling. News flash, all vehicles are going up in price as the economy is inflating.
GM isn’t the reason for the delivery, all manufacturers have that problem and it is staffing and transportation shortages. But go on and think it is just them…
Does anyone know if a household plug is offered on the canyon/Colorado twins?
Canyon: There are tie downs, bed rails, a spray-on bedliner, a 110-volt bed outlet, and remote tailgate lock/unlocking available to add functionality. Plus, the tailgate is available with a water-tight storage bin hidden inside.
