The 2023 Chevy Colorado got its big debut last summer, with GM pulling the sheets on an all-new third-generation pickup. The reveal included a look at the truck’s new exterior, overhauled interior, and new powertrain. As was also the case for the second-generation pickup, off-roading fans are once again offered the Chevy Colorado ZR2, and now, new Colorado ZR2 deliveries are officially underway.
GM Authority has confirmed with a Chevy spokesperson that 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 deliveries have just started. Production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 began last May, as GM Authority covered previously. Production was originally set to kick off in April, but was delayed by roughly a month. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, the same facility that produces the GMC Canyon, Chevy Express, and GMC Savana.
The 2023 Chevy Colorado is offered as the “Desert Runner” of the third-gen pickup lineup, running 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch OD MT tires, as well as a unique grille, Flowtie badging, Black sideview mirrors, Black bumpers, and a few other choice bits and pieces.
The rig’s off-roading claims are backed by Multimatic DSSV dampers, aluminum skid plates, and unique chassis upgrades. Approach angle is set at 38.3 degrees, departure angle is 25.1 degrees, and breakover angle is 24.6 degrees. There’s also a total of 10.7 inches of ground clearance. Those customers that need even more off-roading goodness can step up to the new ZR2 Desert Boss package, which adds in 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels, a new off-road bumper and fascia treatment, a roof-mounted light bar, and more.
As for the powertrain setup, the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, specifically the top 2.7L Turbo High-Output variant rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the updated GM eight-speed automatic transmission, while the updated GMT 31XX platform provides the underpinnings.

Motor Trend magazine gave the ZR2 a positive review in a road / off-road test in the latest issue. My son took delivery of his new Z71 this week and says it’s been great so far.
After a 8 month wait. ( I ordered early)Mine too.
How can The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 deliveries have started when ZR2 orders are still sitting at 3000 which means they have been accepted but not even built yet. The same goes for Canyon AT4X. Come on GM !!!!
how do you know the orders are still at 3000? how did you find that information ?
Where is the proof. Not one person on YouTube or any blog I follow has received 1 zr2. Prove it. How does this distribution get allocated. I’m in pa ordered a zr2 months ago.
Looks like they gave Motor Trend twelve ZR2’s to test from the magazine pictures. That’s 12 customers waiting for their trucks. The ones being shipped are most likely first production. I still can’t order one. Second Dealer I called yesterday stated, GM is still not accepting orders for the ZR2. I am crossing my fingers I can order one on ZR2 second production.
Interesting…
Yes, Motor Trend got some ZR2 trucks which are usually pre-production truck and GM gets feedback from the reporters. Reporters write articles on these test trucks which we read yet we can’t get one. Dealers have had some ZR2 Colorado’s and Canyon AT4X trucks ordered since April 1st. And already we are half way through the year but can’t get one.
Trucks, unlike cars and suv’s seem to have the model year go farther out. By July seems cars and suv’s are the next year but trucks seem to last longer until like October typically. So getting your 2023 is still possible, I also think GM may have under estimated the amount of orders they would get with these new trucks.
I’m personally waiting until next year as it seems every time I go to build one they have different options available. So by next year all the options should be available to order.
@joe: My thoughts exactly! I’m actually holding off until the 2025 model year.
“GM may have under estimated the amount of orders they would get with these new trucks.”
They must have estimated zero orders then.
When will the 2023 Canyon Denali be delivered to customers or dealerships?
I just seen a denali at my local dealer! With no box liner though? Still a beautiful truck, I’m stuck between the denali and the zr2
Don”t know if that statement is true. My dealer still cant get any from GM yet. Waiting since March.
My ZR2 order was submitted May 17 and was just accepted by GM july 4. Still another 3 weeks until a production date can be given. I still feel like I won’t see my new ride till Christmas.
Mine was ordered June 20th and accepted June 30th. Goes to show their priority order on production is just all over the place it seems.
I ordered my ZR2 at the end of December 2022 the order was accepted by GM on March 30th. I am still waiting for my truck. My TPW is August 7th. Now this is my 5th or 6th TPW date. Still sitting at Step 3000.
So I had my order in in Jan. of this year. My dealer told me it was accepted in march then built in May. Was pumped to get this truck. I see now that it is transit which is awesome there’s only one problem, it doesn’t have tech pckg, conv pckg, or saftey pckg. none of the packages i selected were on the truck. i called and confirmed it was my order on its way so i asked the dealer and they blamed GM. So my question is were all of these packages constrained right out the gate?
I will believe it when I see it. I ordered my ZR2 at the end of December 2022 the order was accepted by GM on March 30th. I am still waiting for my truck. My TPW is August 7th. Now this is my 5th or 6th TPW date. My original TPW was April 17th. I did see a video on YouTube of a 2023 Colorado ZR2 in Kentucky on a dealer lot. But that is the only one I have heard of or seen out in public.
I have a VIN for my ZR2. It was built last week, waiting for the update to 3800.
Took delivery of my zr2 2 weeks ago. One of the lucky ones I guess 🙂
How long did it take for it to go from built to delivered?
Was built in the middle of May then delivered mid July. But I know that was the time they had a backlog of trucks on there factory lot that had to be shipped out as well so don’t know how accurate the timing would be but maximum I would say 2 months. I know dealer told me 4 to 6 weeks initially
