2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Gets New Midnight Steel Metallic Color: First Look

The 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing adds four new exterior colors to its palette: Maverick Noir Frost, Radiant Red Tintcoat, Argent Silver Metallic, and Midnight Steel Metallic. Here’s our first look at the new Steel hue.

Assigned RPO code GXU and touch-up paint code WA-138H, Midnight Steel Metallic is one of 10 exterior colors offered on this high-performance variant of the CT5 luxury sedan, which include:

  • Summit White
  • Black Raven
  • Blaze Orange Metallic
  • Wave Metallic
  • Electric Blue
  • Rift Metallic
  • Radiant Red Tintcoat (new for 2023)
  • Argent Silver Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Midnight Steel Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Maverick Noir Frost (new for 2023)

The Midnight Steel Metallic color is an extra-cost item that adds an additional $625 to the price of the luxury sedan and can be combined with all interior colorways.

For reference, here are all three available interior colorways offered on the 2023 CT5-V Blackwing:

  • Jet Black with Jet Black accents
  • Natural Tan with Jet Black accents
  • Sky Cool Gray with Jet Black accents

The 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing arrives with just a handful of changes and updates over the 2022 model, including a new Driver Assist Package as standard and an optional Bronze Accent Package. The most notable changes include the addition of the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system to the options list, which was previously unavailable on the Blackwing. It also gets a new standard vehicle wrap as an alternative to the available enclosed shipping carrier option. Moreover, the 2023 CT5-V Blackwing comes in a new 120th Anniversary Edition to commemorate the founding of the luxury marque in 1902. The release of the special edition follows last year’s Collector Series, which stands apart from the rest of the lineup as the first 250 CT5-V Blackwing units produced.

The 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is powered by the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. The GM six-speed manual transmission is standard, while the 10-speed auto is optional – both exclusively feeding the rear wheels.

Car and Driver named the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to its 2023 10Best cars list. “The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is the greatest sports sedan on sale today,” the editors proclaimed, “if not of all time.”

The Cadillac CT5 rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform, which is shared with the Cadillac CT4. Production kicked off at the GM Lansing Grand River plant on July 18th, 2022. Production of the 2024 model year will start on July 10th, 2023.

  1. Midnight Steel Metallic. Finally, a decent new paint colour!

  2. I have a new AWD Lyriq on order. I wish Midnight Steel Metallic was available on the Lyriq. We knew we wanted a Lyriq, but had a hard time deciding among the not enticing color palette available. Almost paid $1000 extra for the pearlized white, but SUVs in white just don’t do it for us. Oh well, you get what the general says you can have.
I really considered selling my Porsche and getting a new CT5V 6 speed, though I gasped a bit at the price. One of my biggest negatives was the unavailability of Super Cruise, which I really wanted to try. Brovo GM

  5. That Midnight steel metallic looks sharp! I have a question in general though, why do auto companies produce so many vehicles in boring colors. When I bought my malibu in 2015 i had one choice on the lot. They were all black. They had 12 malibus on the lot and all were black. I would have preferred blue or red or some neat color like that steel metallic. It’s like the manufacture’s don’t want to paint their cars interesting colors, or at least very many of them. My son recently had trouble finding a suburu that wasn’t white or gray. Settled for a white one. What gives?

    1. Because the vast majority of car buyers are looking for boring colors, and car dealers who receive limited allotments to sell are risk-averse.

I agree that it’s frustrating when you want to find something other than white, black, or grey. But, I guess the silver lining that when you do find the color you want on the car you want, your car will stand out.
I have purchased 12 cars over the years, most of them black, 3 red and 2 white (all but two of them new). In most of of those cases, I wanted a different color (e.g. blue) but couldn’t find what I wanted in that color.

  6. What happened to the CT5 2024 new interior? Wasn’t it to be the same as the refreshed XT4? Want to order a new CT5 V but feel the interior is dated.
I’m one of the few who only want to buy American made but GM needs to keep the CT5 updated
Looks like they only want to put development money into EV’s and SUV’s.

  7. Reminds me of a ’62 Impala charcoal blue and a few other paints during that time. Good color.
