2022 GMC Hummer EV To Get Another Super Cruise Update

The GM Super Cruise map in certain affected units of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV may be out of date, and GM has issued a customer satisfaction program instructing dealerships to correct the problem.

The General notes that the field action to update the semi-autonomous driver assistance Super Cruise feature in the 2022 Hummer EV can only be completed by properly EV certified dealers. The dealership must use a technician who has been successfully trained in the necessary EV repair procedures to carry out the update.

According to the N232396992 Customer Satisfaction Program, “Super Cruise Map Enhancements,” the Global Warranty Management system should be checked first to confirm the 2022 GMC Hummer EV is one of the units affected. Affected vehicles will be marked “Open” on their Investigate Vehicle History screen.

The first step of the repair is to replace two modules, the Automated Driving Mapping Module and the Serial Data Gateway Module. GM recommends that dealerships should not order these modules as shelf stock because of the small number of 2022 GMC Hummer EV units involved.

Once the two modules are replaced, the Image Processing Module and Parking Assist Control Module must be reprogrammed. The previous customer satisfaction program addressing a similar problem did not require reprogramming of these modules. The customer service program will be in effect until June 30th, 2025.

GM issued a nearly identical service bulletin in May 2023, though without the need for reprogramming of modules as noted above. The first customer satisfaction program applied to a total of 939 affected units of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. This time, The General says only 61 units are affected by the program.

As a reminder, the Pickup and SUV configurations of the Hummer EV offer different performance and power levels although both models are built on the same vehicle platform, the GM BT1 platform.

The Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 is rated at 1,000 horsepower and roughly 1,200 pound-feet of torque, while the Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 is rated at 830 horsepower and about 1,200 pound-feet of torque. Motivation comes from the GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor units directly supply power to all four wheels.

Both Hummer EV variants are produced at the GM Factory Zero plant (previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan. The Hummer EV Pickup began production in November 2021, while the Hummer EV SUV began production earlier this year.
