2022 GMC Hummer EV Recalled For Improperly Welded Battery Connections

GM has issued a recall in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a single unit of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup because high-voltage battery connections were improperly welded during production.

The problem: the affected 2022 GMC Hummer EV, along with several units of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, was produced with incorrectly positioned or welded connections inside the vehicle’s high-voltage battery pack.

The hazards: the affected 2022 Hummer EV unit may lose drive power during operation due to the improperly welded connections, potentially increasing the chance of a crash.

The fix: GM has instructed dealers to replace the incorrectly welded high-voltage battery pack of the involved 2022 GMC Hummer EV with a new, correctly welded high-voltage battery pack. The repair on the recalled vehicle is to be carried out by the dealership free of charge to the Hummer EV owner.

Affected components: high-voltage battery pack.

As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 is motivated by a three-motor powertrain developing 1,000 horsepower and about 1,200 pound-feet of torque, capable of moving the EV from a standstill to 60 mph in 3 seconds. An 830-horsepower three-motor powertrain and 625-horsepower two-motor powertrain are also available elsewhere in the 2023 and 2024 model-year lineups.

All GMC Hummer EV models are powered by GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium drive motor tech, while under the body panels, the GM BT1 platform provides the structure. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

  1. Woooooooow

Day by day the so called Ultium program is becoming a bigger and bigger embarrassment for GM.

  2. Are HUMMER EV recalls even news anymore . . . fortunately, they haven’t produced many since 2021. My college son, who currently drives my old 2007 HUMMER H3x absolutely fawns over this thing and has $ in the bank saved up from numerous jobs over the years in hopes of buying one in a couple years. I’d rather he buy a house and drive the H3 until it dies.
