2022 Chevy Traverse Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit Under Way

GM has begun a retrofit of the heated steering wheel (RPO code KI3) feature for the 2022 Chevy Traverse with a new customer satisfaction program sent to dealerships, GM Authority has learned.

Units of the 2022 Chevy Traverse that were produced between November 22nd, 2021 and April 17th, 2022 while the feature was under constraint will now be equipped with the heated steering wheel omitted at the time of production.

Some vehicles from the LT Leather, RS, and Premier trim levels of the 2022 Chevy Traverse were built without the heated steering wheel normally equipped as standard on those trim levels. The constraint resulted from supply chain disruptions and the microchip shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The High Country trim of the 2022 Chevy Traverse also included the heated steering wheel feature as standard. However, Traverse High Country units were shielded from the constraint and built with the heated steering wheel as normal. The feature was not offered at all on the LS and LT Cloth trims, so no retrofit is available for them.

Affected LT Leather, RS, and Premier units built without the heated steering wheel are indicated by the RPO code 00G on the window sticker. Buyers also received a $50 credit at the time.

The constraint on 2022 Chevy Traverse steering wheels was part of a wider limitation on features across Chevy models at the time. Some of the features under constraint included heated seats, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheels.

Affected Bow Tie models besides the Traverse included the Chevy Blazer, Chevy Colorado, Chevy Equinox, Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Silverado HD, and Chevy Trailblazer. Availability of features and the dates of constrained production varied by model and trim level.

Functional heated steering wheels became available again on the 2022 Chevy Traverse beginning with the April 17th, 2022 production start date. Unavailability of heated seats had already been resolved in February 2022, while ventilated seats continued to be under constraint.

The current retrofit program for the heated steering wheel in the 2022 Chevy Traverse instructs dealers to replace the steering wheel assembly at no charge to owners of affected 2022 Traverse units. The fix will restore normal function to the heated steering wheel.

Owners of affected 2022 Chevy Traverse units were informed at the time of purchase about the heated steering wheel constraint and future availability of a retrofit. Has anyone the same issue or a suggestion or help about how to proceed.
    Thanks!

    1. Still no response from GM. I suppose the grill is way down on the retrofit list, but I’d at least like a response.

  5. This is such a terrible situation. 2 years without parts is unacceptable. No communication from GM. I am surprised there is no class action suit started.

  8. Just went to pick up our 2022 traverse that had heated steering wheel retrofit …. they replaced the whole steering wheel and it was rubbing the plastic on the dash so bad I couldn’t drive it so we had to leave it at the dealer again … how does a professional mechanic not notice something that i did in 5 seconds? The steering wheel was kinda bulky and im not impressed yet ….
