The Chevy versus Ford battle has been waged countless times on the drag strip, but now, we’re checking out a matchup that’s a little out of sync with tradition as a C6 Corvette goes head-to-head with a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R.
Once again coming to us from the folks at Hoonigan, it’s a “This vs. That” battle that includes a series of heads-up runs down an airstrip for straight-line supremacy. Will the Corvette have what it takes to take down the race-inspired, supercharged pickup?
Let’s kick it off with the Chevy. Representing General Motors, we have a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, which is running the LS3 V8, complete with dry sump. Although it’s got a steel frame, the Grand Sport is equipped with various bits from the Z06, including a wider stance and select body components. This particular example is also running a new BFD cam, new PRC 260cc heads, Texas Speed long-tube headers, a new X-pipe, and a performance cat-back exhaust. Output is measured at 550 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque at the tires, with the GM six-speed manual transmission onboard for cog swaps and Toyo Proxes R888R tires for grip.
It’s a pretty nice setup, especially for a daily driver Corvette. But what about that Ford?
Lining up in the other lane, at least at first, is a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, which was upgraded with a host of components and pieces to make more than 1,000 horsepower at the tires. However, as you might expect, the modded Ford ends up going pop, which means a new 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R has to take its place. Specs for the Raptor R include 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque from a supercharged 5.2L V8, all of which is directed through a 10-speed automatic to four-wheel drive.
It’s an interesting match against the rear-wheel drive, manual-equipped, naturally aspirated Corvette. But which of these rides will take the W? Hit play to find out:
