The 2024 Chevy Trax is now being built at its own assembly plant in South Korea, GM Authority has learned.
GM has shifted production of the next-generation Chevy Trax to a new facility because it expects high demand for its affordable crossover, especially in the North American countries of the U.S. and Canada.
The previous generation of the Chevy Trax, which ended with the 2022 model year, was produced at the GM Bupyeong Plant in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, South Korea. It was produced alongside the Buick Encore, which also ended production in the same model year with the 2022 Buick Encore.
After production of the 2022 Chevy Trax wrapped up on November 30th, 2022 and brought the first generation of the Trax to an end, GM skipped the 2023 Chevy Trax model year entirely. However, The General decided to launch the nameplate’s second generation with the currently available, fully overhauled 2024 Chevy Trax.
GM is now producing the 2024 Trax at the GM Changwon Plant in order to meet its high worldwide sales expectations. The first units rolled off the production line on February 24th, 2023. The Changwon Plant was formerly used to build the now-discontinued Chevy Spark, which ended production with the 2022 model year.
Now that 2024 Chevy Trax production has been shifted to Changwon, the Bupyeong Plant will focus on manufacture of the Chevy Trailblazer, the Buick Encore GX and the Buick Envista.
GM is planning to produce and ship 184,000 Chevy Trax units to the U.S. during 2023. The first shipment of 5,000 Trax crossovers left Korea for America in early March, 2023. The vehicle will sell in the affordable new vehicle market where relatively few competing models are currently offered by other automakers.
The 2024 Chevy Trax is already a best-seller in South Korea. GM Authority has exclusively discovered full pricing information for the crossover, including options and packages. The base 1LS trim starts at an MSRP of $21,495 including destination freight charge. The General will allocate Chevy Trax units to dealerships based on previous Chevy Cruze sales, previous Chevy Trax sales, and competitor performance in the dealer’s local market.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax boasts a more spacious interior than the preceding model, offering an extra 3 inches of rear legroom and a 12 percent increase in cargo capacity. An 8-inch diagonal infotainment screen is standard on the base trim level, while higher trims feature an 11-inch screen.
The turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine provides motivation to the 2024 Chevy Trax, developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The GM VSS-F vehicle set provides structure under the body panels.

This is the best Chevy design, besides Corvette, in years. Trax should represent the brands future design language especially with front and back lighting and design
I really like this design too but the trailblazer really looks good. I think what GM did with the canyon/colorado were home runs as well.
Looks inline with the Blazer
Nice to see a i3 knockout i4. If i4 can power a full size truck like silverado/sierra, then 3 cylinder engines are more than enough to run small cars. As electric vehicles with their 100 MPGe + fuel efficiency hit the market, the engines will also get more smaller and efficient.
Toyota Tacoma 2024 eliminates V6 totally with either i4 or i4-hybrid. Way to go.
I bought a new 2024 Trax – I find the 1.2L to be peppy but loud. I test drove also the TB with the 1.3L and thought the Trax’s 1.2L was smoother and little more peppier. When you get to cruising speeds the vehicle is super quiet on par with Buick’s quiet tuning.
Famlin… I think the V6 engine in general is on borrowed time if they can make 4 cylinder CUVs, SUVs, and trucks with more power then why even bother with the V6? EV cars are nice but the technology has to be better proven and we need more range and better + more charging stations. I was talking with somebody who has the Buick encore GX with the 3 cylinder turbo and they love it they say the fuel mileage is great and for that size vehicle it has plenty of power.
They need a Trax EV to replace the Bolt EUV.
I would love to see that happen. I own a Bolt and would buy one. Love the looks.
I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Calling the soon to be Equanox a ‘compact’ suv is crazy given the size (CR-V, RAV4, etc) they have grown to be.
I have a 2023 Chevy Tracker, made in Brazil, 98% similar to the new Trax. It is a fantastic vehicle, and the i3 Turbo has more than enough juice.
Totally different platform. The Tracker is built on the GEM platform. The new Trax is built on the VSS platform. The only real similarity is they share an engine and a transmission.
Too bad that dedicated assembly plant couldn’t be where they expect the high demand – North America!
It certainly could be but Mary can’t get by on twenty-eight million a year. So much for the adage build em where you sell em!
That’s capitalism in action. American corporations have abandoned the American worker. Both political parties have allowed mass migration of jobs to offshore locations. We’re left with crappy service jobs while China flourishes.
The UAW bears some of the blame.
If GM made the Trax here in the USA they would have to add 5-7K ea. to the price to offset the labor costs here.
Its sad but the truth.
from S & P Global Market Intelligence:
Estimated per-vehicle labor cost for GM would be $3,378 in 2023, up 25.1% from $2,700 in 2018. Estimated 2023 costs for Ford will be $3,131, up 20.2% from $2,604 in 2018. Fiat Chrysler’s estimated 2023 costs would be $3,481, up 38.2% from 2018.
So $3,378 average labor cost is not the 5-7K you suggest. You can’t just pull numbers out of the sky, back up your data. How much do you think it costs to ship all these Korea vehicles here? Hmm..
This is the new Chevy “sedan” which we have all been waiting for.
I have only purchased GM cars designed and built in America for the last 58 years . Mary is taking jobs away from American workers ,,and also pushing EVs .. When she came aboard i thought well lets give her a chance, WELL SHE FAILED BIG TIME .
So GM posting record profits is a sign the CEO is failing? 🤦🏻♂️
Yup, record profits. But not from the EV market.
The choice is to transition to EVs or go out of business. That process is not going to be easy or profitable, it’s just the only chance GM has of surviving.
Yes she has sold out Americans. Look at all the cheap foreign labor yet the price of a vehicle is insane. Oh, and take a look at who’s making all the part’s you buy at the dealership.
Globalization not good for American working people. No wonder we have so many homeless.
Max good points all I agree that they I say they because all manufacturers use foreign parts and labor… But we also have homeless people because people don’t want to work…I work for UPS I am part time there for 25 years so far and these people don’t want to do the job ok it’s only part time but you have room to move up and the pay gets better plus you have health care insurance benefits, that are great for me, my wife and three year old son and these people they hire usually quit right away or stay for a while because they can’t do the work this is ever since COVID! I hate to say this but foreign workers work hard like Americans used to back in the 1950’s and 60’s…. Now it’s what can be done for me instead of working for it. I agree that there are homeless for different reasons but don’t sit there and say there are no jobs in this country there are plenty of jobs. And yes if this Trax had AWD I would buy one!
You must be a stock holder ,,its not all about making money ,, How about making Americans work .
Every American auto worker wants to make 100k plus per year, but everyone wants the cars to be cheap as chips. Math doesn’t work that way.
And Mary makes her obscene Salery
Why isn’t there a plant in the United States?
I am an American auto worker. I will be at top pay in a few months.(8 years). Working forced 9 hour days and Saturdays I still won’t make 100k. Don’t know where you are getting your numbers from but we don’t make that much. (100k..)
Then go out and get an education so you can make more money. FYI though, you likely won’t get paid for overtime and you’ll work a lot more hours per day.
You’re in the drivers seat, now quit complaining.
Full arrogance on display…Mr. GMC Fan.
Hey you, just go out and spend $100k on an education (with at least half of the classes proving to be useless), because degrees should be the only way to make big money…even when you’re in your 50’s….
Good grief, GMC Fan. Some of your comments are downright embarrassing. Now where’s your “learn coding” comment?
GMC FAN and morrisangelo I have no problem with people furthering their education my graduated from Gettysburg college a four year school and I always think she is smarter than me and she has a good job I work for UPS part time for 25 years the pay is great and I healthcare coverage for my family I am a Teamster… And no good to!?
GM/Chevrolet design as a whole is getting better!!!
Maybe if you’re into Pokemon
GMC fan, I never complained, just stated a fact we don’t make $50/ per hour like many think we do. Go crawl back under your truck/suv.
Republicans like people that make a dollar an hour. They hate unions, even though they built the middle class. The majority of them don’t go to college because they’re not capable of making a passing grade. They do however support the very rich so they give them jobs that pay $1 an hour.
Danno, you’re smarter than this.
Nobody hates unions more than the automakers, GM included. Republicans don’t make arrangements between the automakers and their workers.
I know it’s easy to watch MSNBC and CNN and instantly draw these anti-Republican conclusions, but you’re smarter than this.
Meanwhile the Dim’s are letting 10’s of thousand of cheap Illegal workers in from the south. So much for your misguided remarks.
You’re not supposed to talk about this….just like the left-leaning MSM isn’t supposed to talk about this.
Too bad the Trax isnt AWD, We need AWD here in the NorthEast, I get it would be a conflict of interest having it compete with the TrailBlazer. I wouldve bought one Oh Well I will keep my Buick Encore AWD Which I LOVE!!!!!
I don’t know… I just can’t get past the three-cylinder engine. I don’t care that it has “enough” for “what it is,” I don’t like that every new generation of car gets weaker. I’m really struggling with the lack of AWD, too. Why would anyone buy a Traiblazer when this looks much better? Otherwise, it seems like an excellent choice for an “economy car.” Good interior, good features, well-apportioned trims… Hideous wheels, though. It looks better than I expected it to be, but it’s not far enough improved for me to consider it.
Hate the alloys and would like to see a hybrid model. Recently drove a Corolla hybrid and was amazed at how well it drove. Don’t want an EV quite yet so think a hybrid will be my next move sometime in 2024 or 2025. Leaning towards the upcoming Hyundai Kona as it looks to be the perfect size for my needs. But would get a Chevy Trax if it’s out in time.
But please, offer some nicer alloy wheels or I’m outta here! Don’t want to go aftermarket to be honest so hoping they can get alloys similar to the longer Bolt model, the EUV I think it’s called. Those are quite attractive and would make the new Trax pop, if you will. On my current vehicle, I went with the SEL rims which gave my vehicle a much nicer look. Still get compliments about how well they make my plain Jane Golf look!
I hit a deer coming home from work. They can’t get the parts to fix it. My insurance company only covers the rental for about 1 month. The mechanic said it could takes months to get the parts. So, I suppose it is because they are all made in korea? I feel like I will pay more for the rental than the repairs actually cost.
I am in need of some help. I just purchased a 2024 Chevy Trax and 2 weeks later my window was shot out as I was driving down the highway. Long story short I can’t seem to find a glass for my window (driver’s front side) and I have tried every mom and pop shop even several dealerships and no one can give a an answer as to when a glass will be available. Is there anyone out there that can help me find one asap since I am having to pay out of pocket for car rentals?
