Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S Leaked In China

Five months after the GM Authority first captured the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision under heavy camo, Buick‘s refreshed compact crossover has just completely leaked in China.

Images of the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S have leaked in China.

Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S

Chinese authorities have leaked the upcoming refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S, publishing the official future product statement made by General Motors’ SAIC-GM joint venture in the Asian country. As such, the Chinese government once again got ahead of the automaker by releasing the first exterior images and technical data sheet of the refreshed second-generation Envision ahead of its official unveiling. As a reminder, the Chinese-market Envision S is equivalent to the North American variant, sold alongside the previous-gen Envision and larger Buick Envision Plus.

2021 Buick Envision

As usual in such cases, the leaked statement of the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S includes a couple of images showing the crossover from the front three-quarters, the rear, and a third with details of various parts of the exterior design. Despite the low resolution, these images give a first look at what the updated 2024 Envision S looks like on a lower trim level.

Aesthetically, the main novelty of the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S is in the front fascia that adopts the Pure Design language and the brand’s new corporate face introduced on the most recent products. New hallmarks of the Envision S include a new split headlamp assembly, a signature shark-nose front end, a generously sized lower grille and a redesigned Buick logo.

The 2024 Buick Envision S’ profile remains unchanged, adding only a few trim details like a new wheel design on the base version. Similarly, the rear section receives no major modifications except for minor cosmetic changes, including new taillight housings and a reorganization of the elements in the lower part of the bumper, with false exhaust outlets at each end.

The refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S will make its official debut over the next few months in China, the country of origin and sole manufacturing location of the Tri-Shield brand’s compact crossover. The updated Envision is also expected to feature a new interior design, with an updated dashboard housing the curved Buick Virtual Cockpit display, while keeping the second-generation model’s existing powertrain.

  1. I really like the look of the current generation Envision. Unfortunately, this refresh is not an improvement to the front. I would never buy one anyway – not a fan of sending American money and jobs to China.

  2. Had a deposit down on one found out it was manufactured in China cancelled the deal . You want me to buy GM build them in North Americas with North American content it’s all about jobs for me and my neighbors.

    1. If you want to put you neighbors, either literal or metaphorical, to work, you. need to buy from a foreign maker. BMW (several states), Toyota (several states), Nissan (several states), Subaru (Indiana), etc.

And, to those of you who think these factories only build up knock-down kits sent in from Japan, you were right 40 and 50 years ago.

  3. The new front end works better in this application than other recent reveals, but it is still a downgrade from the existing. The old front gave the car a more upright stance that provided an aggressive and sporty feel. This new shark nose element forces the front end to nose dive and look droopy in my opinion.

Such a shame they are moving to this pure design shark nose stuff. I wonder how the Chinese market feels about it? If GM loses that customer base they are done.

  6. When they introduced the redesigned the 2021 Envision I test drove one and was not at all impressed with the anemic engine which to me was underpowered from the 2020 model I owned. So I bought another competitive brand instead. I was contemplating buying a 2024 Envision but the exterior refresh is underwhelming to say the least and they are sticking with the same powerplant. It is a no go for me and I have been a lifelong Buick owner. GM needs to set Buick apart to survive but all they do is sell rebadged Chevy’s Sad

  7. Another GM design gone wrong and I actually really wonder how many owners of this Buick actually know it’s made in China. This product will never come back to the USA

    1. I’m willing to bet that a lot of GM customers don’t know where their vehicles are built, they just blindly buy them because that is all their family buys. I laughed out loud the other day when I was following a brand new Chevy Blazer and it had a UAW license plate frame on it that said something like “I’m Love My U.S.A. Built Vehicle.” Ummm, your new Blazer was built in Mexico, not the US.

  8. Replacing Envision’s Opel style front design with a Hyundai or Chinese design is a very wrong choice.

    1. The Envision has been built in China for several generations now. Opel hasn’t had anything to do with it ever.

  9. Buick used to be distinctive, now Kia and Hyundai are grabbing the distinctive design titles.

They really need to create a modern day ventiport chrome side piece that reflects Buick history. It would make these cars stand out.

Also how about a color that no one else has?

  10. Also can someone with photo shop skills put some ventiports/portholes on the Envista? I think it would give Buick a Maserati look and would be a cool post for GM Authority to get people talking.

    1. I’d argue Buick hasn’t been distinctive since the Riviera and the Skylark. Although I agree with most who say this facelift is a step backward as far as beauty is concerned, it’s at least a step towards being a bit more distinctive and brining in a more cohesive look to the lineup.

  14. Pass.

Just like the Encore GX went from nice looking to underwhelming at best. Now Chinese Buick division has hit the Envision with the same ugly stick. Just one more to go (Enclave) and Chinese Buick/GM will have ruined the entire Buick line for good.

  15. My real concern is about the ongoing escalation of US/China trade wars. The day will come when it won’t matter how the Invision looks because you won’t be able to get replacement parts to keep it running.

    1. Pretty much any car on sale has a supply chain that extends to China. Should what you suggest actually materialize, almost all cars will be affected, not just the ones with final assembly in China.

  16. The design and overall size and shape of the Buick Envision is not that different from vehicles by many other brands, such as Hyundai and Kia.

None of the newly-refreshed Buicks are even for sale in the US yet, so give the “Pure Design” a chance.

    1. Christopher: As always, I appreciate your optimism.

But show me a picture of a very ugly woman and I can tell you that I wouldn’t find her any more attractive in person. Buick has found it’s way to the top of the ugly tree and the refreshed models have fallen out, hitting every branch on the way down. The Envista is the only one thus far that (IMO) seems to wear that new styling ok.

      1. Well, Dan, if these aren’t fully cohesive designs – because they are admittedly grill refreshes tacked onto a previous body design – then to you I would say that these are just placeholders anyway. I can’t help but wonder if Buick USA won’t, even slightly, change the designs of the Electra E5 and E4 electric vehicles from what has been shown in China. (On his website, Vince Burlapp even recently had what was supposedly the Electra E3. He also had a rendering of what the freshened Buick Regal might look like, with the Pure Design front end – I thought it was sharp!) Did GM show the Buick Wildcat Concept in China at all? If not, that further strengthens my suspicion that they are planning, with at least one of the Electras, something different for the US.

        1. This is the sanest comment on this thread. I totally agree and remain optimistic.

I think this refresh looks pretty great considering it amounts to basically just a new front grille. I say this not as some disgruntled baby boomer, but as a millennial, the generation they WANT finding these new-style Buicks attractive.

          Reply
        2. I just can’t agree on that. It’s not just a new grille (Encore GX and this Envision) based on the pictures. In this article it shows subtle differences to the back and I’m sure some on the sides as well. And then you have the interior changes that (IMO) have degraded the dash compared to the pre-refresh. Of course, I’m in the minority big time here, but I don’t like the new dash/screen in the Encore GX and what I’ve seen for possible interiors on the refreshed Envision, I won’t like it either. Everyone knows I don’t want an SUV (don’t really hate them, just don’t want one). But the previous/current Envision dash/doors/screen/console look really good and I’ve complimented it in the past. In fact, I’ve previously stated that I feel the Envision was one of the nicest interiors/screen setup that I’ve seen in any vehicle.

So does GM/Buick have something more coming for us down the road? I would hope so, but doesn’t matter to me because I’ve checked out from GM. But for those true Buick loyalists hanging on yet, I hope you are correct and I hope this isn’t the final direction they chose.

    2. It’s a shame that none of the cars are as beautiful as older cars all the cars today look alike they ruined the look of the Blazer as far as I’m concerned what happened to the originality make their cars stand out

      1. In many cases, the manufacturers are fighting for every last bit of reduction in drag coefficient they can find due to the standards set by Our Betters in Washington. I am sad to say that the days of an affordable car that also looked good are long gone.

  18. Buick continues to go the route of a Hyundai/Kia appearance. They need to draw from their European counterpart Opel similar to the now defunct Regal GS I thought they were trying with the current Generation Envision with the upscale facia and the aggressive looking air intake scoops apparently they decided not to go that way and go to this design Sad!

  19. All these comments are so negative! I had Buicks for years. Never any problems with them. I’m actually on my
3rd Envision. It’s not only a beautiful looking car but runs like a charm. I believe all these negative comments are
only because its made in china. Most of cars around are made in other countries.

  22. Drove a 23′ Envision. Most don’t know it has 228HP/258 LB FT torque. Beats Mazda CX-30/CX-5/cx50, Ford Escape,
    Toyota RAV4, all Subaru’s except WRX,VW Tiguan.
Drove nice and smooth. If Buick is upmodel Chevy,it should increase the warranty to at least 48 months to separate itself.
Maybe increase HP to 250 to compete with Ford Edge.

  23. really, made in China. i should have known,,, the 6 + year old battery in my Enclave i just replaced was made there,
The products they make are good, labor is their slave engine, its their politics that reveal unscrupulis intentions.
So its just the typical way of the world, of business i mean they are fighting a major union thats causing some
    financial problems.
I guess im going to buy elseware.
