Potential 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline Spotted As Tahoe, Yukon Rival

GM crosstown rival, Ford Motor Company, is set to unveil the refreshed Ford Expedition for the 2025 model year. With it, the Blue Oval brand will launch the refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline, a more off-road capable variant for the full-size SUV. Now, spy photographers have caught the new 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline testing as a camo-clad prototype, giving us an early look at Ford’s rival for the Chevy Tahoe Z71 and GMC Yukon AT4.

The refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline tests as a prototype.

Per a recent report from our sister publication, Ford Authority, this 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline prototype presents us with a number of interesting tidbits to pick through when it comes to expectations for the refreshed off-roader, despite the camo covers.

For starters, the refreshed 2025 Ford Expedition looks to introduce a new front end that could include a new hood, as well as a revised design for the lift gate and tailgate. The rear wiper will also be relocated, finding a spot out of sight, possibly under the third brake light.

This prototype is also notably for its running gear, which includes downsized multi-spoke wheels in a black finish, wrapped in General Grabber rubber. The rollers suggest that this is indeed the 2025 Ford Expedition Timberline. To note, the current Ford Expedition Timberline is equipped with 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires.

Further enhancements on offer by the current Expedition Timberline include Active Orange accents, a unique grille design, 10.6 inches of ground clearance, better approach and departure angles, and a wider track. Under the hood, the Expedition Timberline features the twin-turbo Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost H.O. engine, rated at 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, with a 10-speed automatic transmission onboard for cog swaps. There’s also extensive underbody protection similar to that of the Ford F-150 Raptor, while Trail Turn Assist helps when navigating trucky terrain.

Meanwhile, the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon continue to show strong sales performance in the mainstream full-size SUV segment, grabbing 30-percent market share and 22-percent market share, respectively, in Q4 of 2022.

  1. Why are Ford and Chrysler still attemping to enter this market. GM have stated that it will defend their market share with whatever it takes. Chrysler wasted over a $Billion dollars with the Wagoneer trying to go after Escalade market. This is GM territory, just like the commercial vans work truck is predominantly Ford. GM really do not compete in the ICE commercial van work truck. GM is preparing to go full out with electric commercial vans work truck with Bright Drop, but that will be two years before GM can ramp up enough volume to be a major player.
