Poll: Which 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV Grille Looks Better?

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV represents the second model year of the Bow Tie brand all-electric crossover’s first generation. Although the Bolt EUV may be priced towards the bottom of the electric crossover segment, General Motors provides prospective customers a few options to personalize their vehicle, including different grille designs. Today, we want to know, which design do you prefer?

Technically, while the Bolt EUV doesn’t possess the stereotypical grille, the front fascia is noticeably different depending on the customer’s preference. GM offers a body-colored front grille – or front fascia – on Premier trim levels, and a black grille – or front fascia – on LT trims.

Also included in the photos above are LT and Premier units equipped with the Redline Edition Package (RPO code WGQ). This appearance package includes subtle elements that add to the overall curb appeal of the Bow Tie crossover, including (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • 17-inch Gloss Black painted aluminum wheels with Red accents (PWW)
  • Black and Red Bolt EUV badge (WTV)
  • Red accent decal on outside mirror caps
  • Jet Black leather-appointed seating

Of course, as can be seen in the photos, the Redline Edition Package doesn’t alter the grille color.

As a brief reminder, the Chevy Bolt EUV, along with the Chevy Bolt EV, rides on the GM BEV2 platform and features a single electric motor, which develops 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque driving the front wheels. Meanwhile, production of the 2023 Bolt EUV and Bolt EV kicked off on July 21st, 2022 at the GM Orion Assembly plant in Michigan.

So, what do you think, dear reader? Do you prefer the body-colored grille or black grille? Let us know in the poll, and fire off in the comment section below!

  1. What the hell difference does it make since GM will end Bolt EUV production this year…the best and only truly affordable EV available in the country. Thanks, GM

    1. I accidentally hit one of the choices. But I couldn’t see any difference with phone I’m using. But I like my EUV, barebones as it is.

The put in a 48 amp charger in the 2022s. Instead of the perfectly fine 32 amp one in old bolts and a few volts.

I wish they had spent the money on something useful like fixing the radio.

    2. GM needs a C-segment electric Cruze even if coupe SUV. An electric Envista wiould have slotted nicely. Bolt EUV, while nice, isn’t large enough to compete plus American drivers avoid hot hatch Astra-like vehicles.

(I’m bewildered that GM’s biggest seller Cruze was killed due to low margins, but Envista is hitting low volume Buick at a price point not appropreate for luxe brand.)

      1. According to GMA, the Trax was the planned replacement for the Cruze.

Hopefully GM can develop an Ultium based Trax EV near the same price point as they get battery prices down to $87/kwh (per a recent article here). Then minus the about $50/kwh adv mfg tax credit.

    3. Tom D: My thoughts exactly. The first thing that came to mind when I read the headline was who the heck cares now?

Maybe they can come up with another article for us to vote on. This time which Chevy Spark model looks the best. We can vote for the front end of the 2 LT or the Special Edition.

  2. According to Scotty, G.M. is rethinking their decision on ending the Bolt…fwiw.

  3. Wait…..it’s an EV so it’s not supposed to be good looking. Doesn’t matter what you put on it-it’s an ugly car so mission accomplished.

    1. Teslas are also ugly. Which just makes gas cars look better.

  4. What’s the difference? They both suck.

  6. It’s a good looking little Car. We love ours!!!
Shame they are discontinued as demand and interest is picking up. Prefer the darker grill like we have on our LT.

  7. Since this is a poll on which one looks better I prefer the blacked out version. I would like to see it switched over to the ultium platform with some improvements in range and hvac system. But then I’m also in the Tom D camp with why even ask…

  8. Why an eLectric car needs a grille ?

    Reply
    1. Why do EV need grilles? They need them more than ice’s do since, as in this case, the bolt, has a water cooled battery which tries to use ambient wind if possible. Failing that an electric fan turns on, and if that is not enough the refrigeration compressor starts up.

It is also needed to cool the 200 hp electric motor – again water cooled, and inverter drive, and home charger, and the 120 amp alternator replacement.

A beautiful Cummins Diesel is so efficient it can get along with no cooling fan in city traffic, but it can stand much higher temperatures than electrics can.

      1. There are a boatload of adjectives for “diesel ‘, for certain “beautiful ‘ is not one of them.

        1. A diesel that isn’t tethered to a cord like an EV is beautiful to me.

  9. I can’t get over the lack of creativity on the part of the GM design studios presenting these four choices. Bland, unresponsive to the e-era which should be reflected in overall aesthetics [in this micro-case that is all the “grille” is anymore], and completely Teslaish. Surely someone can do better? I’d love to see activities in the studios and hear the conversations.

  10. I was driving the other day and I was struck by how many ICE vehicles have extremely small grilles — VW Beetle, Toyota C-HR, Honda CR-V, etc. People are overthinking the grilles. EVs use the large plastic moldings for branding so you know they’re an EV.

  14. Answer- neither as EV front ends are incredibly boring and blank.

  15. In pictures the “black” grille looks nice. In person though it’s dark grey and doesn’t look as good as body colored.

  16. I don’t want body color because it makes it look like an EV. I want to just fit in, not virtue signal and I wouldn’t want somebody putting nails under my tires for buying something that’s destroying the car industry.
