General Motors officially unveiled the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD last September, ushering in a long list of changes and updates for the heavy-duty pickup. Among the changes was revamped exterior styling, including ten different front fascia finishes, breaking away from the highly criticized design introduced by the current generation during the 2018 calendar year. So then, we’re curious – does the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD fix the truck’s design?

For readers who may not remember, the current fourth-generation Chevy Silverado HD made its formal introduction for the 2020 model year, with GM pulling the sheets on a completely new exterior design. Pretty much immediately, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD was met with criticism over the new styling, with GM Authority readers posting a multitude of comments deriding the design, with a particular focus on the front fascia.
Despite the criticism, the fourth-generation Chevy Silverado HD has sold well, consistently placing near the top of its segment with regard to sales volume.

Now, General Motors is launching the refreshed Chevy Silverado HD for the 2024 model year, updating the exterior design in the process. The new look stands out with C-shaped lighting elements that bracket the large rectangular grille, the latter of which incorporates chunky, horizontally oriented grille bars that emphasize the truck’s natural width. A large hood scoop element tops the fascia leading into the hood, while a prominent grille bar runs across the top of the primary air intake, housing a Chevy Bow Tie badge.
All told, the look is a significant update over the preceding 2020 through 2023 model years. It’s better but still prefer the GMC.
I feel like they are trying to cross over the design , to be more inline with GMC. That being said, the interior is not totally redone, it’s mostly an all new dash, with basically the same interior otherwise. While overall, it looks decent, the seating could definitely be more comfortable for long drives!
It’s definitely an improvement, but the DRL lighting could have a better design…something more akin to the 1500 or Tahoe. The HD’s DRL lighting appears to have gone astray as though the designer dropped dropped his/her pen. But overall the front facia definitely looks much better, especially with the elimination of the FUGLY headlights it previously had.
True…GMC’s Look Better….Instead Of The Two Lights On Each Side It Should Have Been Three!
I prefer the GMC as well but I do wish it had the Silverados cleaner flares and wheel well design.

The appearance of a pre-‘24 High Country and the new truck are subtle. I don’t think most non-truck guys would even notice. I preferred the chrome egg-crate grill of the ‘20-‘23 models.
My nephew had a 2021 AT4 with Duramax and for whatever reason, kept having mechanical issues with the engine, until the dealer finally bought it back after finding that the last time he had it in for repairs, mechanic didn’t tighten all the bolts down.
Much, MUCH nicer interior than the previous version! Definitely a solid improvement on the exterior front-end treatment as well. I still prefer the look of the GMC, so I bought one of those instead.
Every one of the picture comparisons is a High County (24) vs an LT(Z) (<24), and that's not apples to apples. I wasn't a big fan of the non-HC 20's, but the HC trim was better.
I agree with the comment about it now looking like the GMC, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I still liked the 20+ HC's, and what set them apart from the GMC's. There have been some really bad GMC versions vs. Chevy versions over time as well.
Why people got so hung up on the band that went all the way across the middle, I never understood. We still get a lot of comments on our 2020 HC…
I still like the 20/23s better but I wish they’d quit painting parts that are on the front because of all the
rock chips it will get over the next few years. I have the 2022 3500 dually and I found a front hood cover in chrome to protect it. Now if I could just get some chrome covers for the areas around the lights that are painted.

In both of these photos you compare the new 2024 High Country to the pre-model year LTZ. Nice little game you’re playing there. Sort of not apples to apples since the 20-23 High Country has a mostly different grille. I think one of the biggest complaints about the 20-23 model year is the fact that those grilles sport “CHEVROLET” across the front on the LTZ trims and down with the High Country grille sporting the bowtie. I’ll take the 20-23 High Country design over the 2024 all day long. It’s distinguished with the sharp looking LEDs instead of joining the growing list of trucks sporting “C” shaped LEDs being mostly the same.
I’m with Kurtis! I actually like the split lights on the HC. While I wasn’t a “fan” of the CHEVROLET across the middle, it was near the eyesore that everyone made it out to be…
definitely an improvement for sure. i like how they implemented the headlight design with the front grille bar. the only thing i wish they did differently is the drl design because it literally looks like the gmc drl but backwards. it works yes, but it resembles it too much.
The poll is flawed. “Did they fix it: yes/no”. It needs an option for “I liked it before; don’t care for the update”.
I think the front looks ok , blends in with all the competitor grills. I personally liked the older , bold in your face design. I have both HC and Custom models. On the custom I replaced my lights with LED from lasfit and it looks nice.
I personally like the old dash with the gauges and set up it had before.
Not everyone complained about the front grill or interior….
We love our 2020 Chevrolet 2500 HD. We toured the US with it towing our fifth wheel trailer. It was 2021 and there was a shortage of DEF. We had several people wanting to trade their diesel for our gas truck.
Can’t say its better, but having the bowtie on the front again is right and helps it look better. Both aren’t the most attractive, but I don’t really care about looks. Trucks are a tool, not an image purchase, I would buy it if it was ugly and needed a new one.
The 2024 version looks wheely good. I agree the earlier versions looked weird. This one looks OK. I like it better than Ford’s version. Don’t like RAM version unless they do something with the wheel well in the back. Gotta do something to it. Note: I am only interested in the dually with Supercab (not crew cab) versions.
Ford designed it well a few years ago and it looked swell then suddenly changed the design. I think it was the design before the diesel engine stewpidity which revealed the whole trouble was shortened head bolts by a 1/4 inch or something. Design error?
new look is a lot better but the price is still 10k too high
