Orders Are Pouring In For The Buick Electra E5 In China

Following the official launch of the all-new Buick Electra E5 in China, SAIC-GM announced that Buick‘s all-electric crossover has been very well received by customers so far.

The SAIC-GM joint venture said that the all-new Buick Electra E5 recently accumulated 8,000 orders in China, becoming the automaker’s zero-emission vehicle with the highest level of initial acceptance. The new Electra E5 went on sale on the same day as its April 13th launch and achieved that online sales record about ten days after its commercial rollout in the Chinese market.

In fact, the company also revealed interesting facts about the most popular configurations and features of the all-new Buick Electra E5 in China. It stated that 78 percent of customers chose the mid-range Enjoy trim level and 42 of them preferred the variants equipped with the longer-range Ultium powertrain. In addition, half of those who chose the range-topping Avenir AWD trim opted for Super Cruise as well.

Initial sales data for the all-new Buick Electra E5 in the Chinese market also showed customer preferences regarding the crossover’s design and appearance. SAIC-GM claims that the model’s “Chen White” paint color currently has the highest take rate and the most popular launch interior configuration is the two-tone colorway called “Fog Gray.”

In particular, the Buick Electra E5 stands out as the brand’s first electric vehicle worldwide based on Ultium Battery technology and the Ultium Drive propulsion system. At the same time, the Electra E5 is the first member of the new global family of Electra models, ushering in the new zero-emissions era of the Tri-Shield brand with an entirely new brand image and design language.

The all-new Buick Electra E5 is now available for sale through the brand’s new direct sales channel in China, which currently includes 12 urban EV showrooms, dedicated EV zones at select network stores official Buick dealers and the renewed exclusive iBuick application for that country. The Electra E5 is expected to be announced for the North American market in the coming months.

  1. This can’t get to the US fast enough.

    1. Why though? It’s certainly not exciting to look at, and it will be a bore to drive, guaranteed. It does have a nice interior though, better for spending lots of lonely time at a charging station, catching up on romance novels.

  2. I thought they said, it was only for the chinese market???
Now they change their mind and will be available for the north america market?
Canada maybe ? Because we don’t have the made in USA restrictions for government incentives. I do see gm-saic has surplus capacity. That’s a good new for Canadian.

    1. The vehicle is eligible for Federal incentives if it’s a leased sale in the US

  3. Isn’t it sad we don’t have cool cars because China loves worthless Buick? gm is lost in a sea of mundane CUV’s and the ridiculous push for the battery suicide. I’m sad that the maker of Corvette, Camaro, Chevelle, GTO, C10, 442, K5 real Blazer, and so many other cool cars has lost its way since it was bought out by the taxpayers. Mary Barra, the CCP, democrat party, and global climate change whiners/profiteers are absolutely abhorrent people. No wonder why it had to become a lowercase (gm) company.

    1. GM is a healthier and more profitable company now than it was for the last 30 years. Buick’s popularity in China plays a big part of that. You can complain and point fingers to everyone you don’t like as to why you can’t grapple with a changing automotive market but GM isn’t slow rolling towards insolvency like it was in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s so I think the company is doing well.

      1. Still builds too many boring Crossover wagons. Only the Corvette and trucks are interesting and once converted to EV it’s over.

      2. Let’s quantify your comment about Buicks popularity in China; Yes, Buicks EV is doing well, but please go online and check out what is currently happening with the gm ICE (or any other legacy car manufacturer of ICE vehicles in China) sales. Sales of ICE cars have become a disaster that may spell the end of some legacy car makers.
Gm has a big problem to deal with and it is going to cost them to lose a lot of money.

  4. So let me get this correct: in a country of 1.4 BILLION people that are reportedly CUCKOO over EV, Buick has received 8,000 orders in three weeks for this thing… and this is their best showing so far? Seems totally underwhelming to me. Pathetic and weak, even.

From an article published on August 22nd about the Dodge Hornet’s initial sales performance, of all things:

“It’s been just 24 hours since Dodge unveiled its new compact crossover. The Dodge Hornet promises impressive performance for under $30,000, and apparently, it’s garnered some attention. According to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, 14,000 preorders have already been placed.”

    1. The Hornet can hardly be compared to the Electra E5, but since you believe that Chrysler / Ram is doing things right, why not leave the GM website and join your friends on the Chrysler site where the vehicles and direction of the their products are more to your liking !

      1. El Capitan: I was merely putting things into perspective. The article states orders are “pouring in” for the creatively named Electra E5, but then the paltry number of “8,000 in three weeks since launch” kinda put facts into the spotlight. That is not very many orders under the circumstances.

It is truly sad that the goofy little Hornet garnered so many pre-orders in such a short time (24 hours!) and a car that will singlehandedly save the earth can only generate 8k intenders in 3 weeks.

In other EV news, I was amused at the tiny number of Lightnings Ford has sold in the last reporting period. I thought we were told that everyone wants an EV? The real evidence speaks differently.

  9. GM has many highly coveted BEV’s currently but as of right now all it seems GM can do is “Take” the reservations which is the easiest part but NOT “Deliver” the Orders HaHa
