While Chevy Corvette buyers usually prefer red as the exterior paint color for their sports car, owners of the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 have so far bucked the trend, choosing a different hue instead.
According to Chevy, Black (color code GBA) is the single most popular color for the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 to date, as the following infographic shows:
Black (GBA) is the top paint color for the 2023 Corvette Z06 at 14 percent, while Torch Red (color code GKZ) is still the most popular color for the 2023 Chevy Corvette Stingray at 15 percent. Torch Red is usually the most popular C8 Corvette color every year.
When the 14 percent of Corvette Z06 units painted in Black gets combined with the 6 percent finished in Carbon Flash Metallic (GAR), the number of Z06 Vettes built so far with a black exterior hue climbs to 20 percent. This rivals the combined 21 percent of Corvette Z06s built in the two red hues, Torch Red and Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat (GPH).
Torch Red was the most popular paint color for the 2022 Chevy Corvette as well, accounting for 16.1 percent of the vehicles sold. Black placed fifth among color choices for the 2022 model year, accounting for 10.7 percent of the 25,831 units of the 2022 Corvette built by GM.
As a reminder, the Chevy Corvette C8 Z06 variant joined the Corvette lineup for the first time during the 2023 model year. The Z06 is motivated by the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, rated at a maximum of 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, revving up to an 8,600-rpm redline.
The C8 Corvette Stingray now occupies the “entry-level” position among Corvette variants, with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine under the hood providing 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.
The upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Corvette will continue to include the Corvette Z06 variant in the lineup, with start of regular production (SORP) currently scheduled for September 5th, 2023.
The 2024 model year of the Bow Tie’s sports car will also introduce the new Corvette E-Ray, a hybrid combining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine also found in the C8 Corvette Stingray with a single electric motor and 1.9 kWh battery system to develop a combined 655 horsepower.
The 2023 Corvette Z06, like all other variants of the Chevy Corvette C8, rides on the GM Y2 platform. Production place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.

I wish they had a dark blue. I also liked Shadow grey better than hypersonic gray.
I love my 2020 Shadow Grey Metallic with natural leather interior C8. I get compliments on the color combination all the time. My wife and son convinced me to go with it. I had ordered red, but was able to change the color during the 14 month wait for delivery.
Why don’t they just spread the color spectrum around. They make so much of one color and flood the market and then the consumer does not really have a way to make a definitive choice. I have been wondering why they do not do many more Silver Flare Metallic (now they want to get rid of it). Why is the whole market flooded with powder coated black rims…. offer a variety of choices stop following all of the other companies. Cadillac does not seem to be following.
I iwsh that they still offered the Morello Red interior which is a bit muted and goes well with a many of the exteriors
Black is currently (as of yesterday) only 41 units ahead of Torch Red…with Bowling Green (finally) producing 20-30 Z06s daily, there could easily be a late win for Torch Red. Either way, with such low production and many ready-to-order customers unable to do so, the numbers being different may not actually mean there’s a change in overall customer preferences.
Also, I doubt anyone is surprised with Caffeine being at the bottom (only 11 Z06s made so far), but I would have thought (even though not my 1st choice) Ceramic Matrix would have done better.
Would you share your source for the production stats for the Z06, I’m on a short list at my dealer and would like to keep track. My dealer said that I will get one but it will likely be a 2024.
Thanks,
c8tracker.com pulls the info and makes it easy
Caffeine right at the bottom where it should be, just like the color it replaced did poorly.
My arctic white with red leather is drop dead gorgeous…and clearly reminds me of early Vettes. My personal prejudice is that all other colors, other than red, are designer touches that don’t belong on a true sports car. By the way, what happened to what I call Corvette blue from 63-67?
Would like to see one in British racing green. Chevrolet can call it Bowling Green. A tan interior would set it off.
There is a reason there is no green.
Please clue me in…
Not many like green cars
Interesting. I must be an outlier. I ordered a dark green GMC Sierra in 2000 and the sales manager tried to talk me out of the color. In retrospect, he probably thought if I reneged on the order, he wouldn’t be able to sell it. When it came in, two other people wanted to buy it. It was a great truck and I was very partial to the color.
The E-Ray will offer a green exterior and interior.
Got my 2021 C8 convertible in Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic with nose-to-tail dual sterling silver stripes and sterling wheels. Sky Cool Gray interior.
I have to say the number one question / comment made by admirers is “what is that color? It is mazing!”.
My response: “Thank you. It is Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic. Too many words for a simple paint color. But GM’s way to justify an up-charge by making it sound extra special.”
Glad to see that this many years out, CMGM paint color is still so admired AND still one of the more rarely seen ones!
Dose anybody out there including you C8LOVR like the old medium and light blu colors from the 60’s ?
I believe my 1965 convertible was called “Nassau Blue
For me black looks good but not preferred color on mid engine designed sport cars. Vibrant colors look the best to me.
I strongly dislike black. The only way I would begin to consider black is if it were black metallic.
Nothing looks better that a black Z06 (of any generation)!
Curious how the C8 would present in Goodwood Green ?
I have a 2023 Red Mist Convertible Corvette (resale red) with black interior. It turns a lot of heads in Santa Maria, California and everyone has to try to pass me.
I guess I’m a bit old school with my colors.
Men if they only come out a rapid green lime. Or lime green metallic Dark green interior Or Mary Kay pink Red interior
Every body is going crazy about zo6 and the 2025 ZR1 There very strong rumors about the that Dodge viper coming back as MIDENGINE V 12 The c8 is $80.000 ZO6 $120.000 the ZR1 is gotta be pushing $180.000 and now the 2025 MIDENGINE v12 Dodge viper it’s gonna be a Ferrari kind of money $200.000 and how long doFORD think they can keep selling the GT 40. For they are going to come off about $40.000 if they want to really compete in carsales game
I sound like that too when I push the limit of my whiskey consumption…
I think this is more like the end result of clouds of THC 😁
I would be happy to see the return of Lime Rock Green.
