GMC Sierra Park Assist Retrofits Under Way

GM has announced dealer retrofits of the front and rear park assist feature (RPO code UD5), omitted from certain units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited as well as the 2022 and 2023 GMC Sierra HD when they were produced, are currently under way.

Certain units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, the 2022 GMC Sierra HD and the 2023 GMC Sierra HD were manufactured without the front and rear park assist feature they were ordered with. The semiconductor shortage and supply chain problems following the COVID-19 pandemic reduced component availability, leading to the park assist constraint.

GM started producing units of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited and 2022 GMC Sierra HD without a functional front and rear park assist feature from December 20th, 2021 forward.

Affected GMC Sierra 1500 Limited vehicles were produced prior to the model refresh introduced mid-year for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The constraint on the front and rear park assist for the 2023 GMC Sierra HD applies to units built between start of regular production (SORP) on July 18th, 2022 and resolution of the constraint on July 20th, 2022.

For the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, the front and rear park assist feature was normally optional on the Pro trim level as part of the 1SA Driver Alert Package I (RPO code PQA), available as an option on the SLE, Elevation, AT4 and SLT trims as part of the Driver Alert Package I (RPO code PQB), and equipped as standard on the range-topping Denali trim level.

For both the 2022 and 2023 model years of the GMC Sierra HD, park assist was normally optional on the Pro trim level as part of the 1SA Driver Alert Package I (RPO code PQA), optional on the SLE, SLT and AT4 trim levels as part of the Driver Alert Package I (RPO code PQB), and standard on the Denali trim.

All affected units are identifiable by the RPO code 00Z printed on their window sticker.

GM has instructed its dealers to retrofit the front and rear park assist feature with a functional control module as part of its customer satisfaction program. The necessary parts for the retrofit can be ordered from GM. The actual retrofit process for the GMC Sierra includes removal of the non-functional park assist control module and replacing it with a new, functional park assist control module.

The service personnel carrying out the retrofit may also find it necessary to reprogram the instrument cluster or the active safety control module on some vehicles.

The retrofit program is in effect until May 31st, 2026 and is available at no cost to owners of affected GMC Sierra trucks.

The dealership notified buyers about the non-functional front and rear park assist feature on their GMC Sierra at the time of purchase. The dealer also informed them that a retrofit would become available as soon as the constraint was lifted and GM could supply the necessary parts.

Owners who have questions about the retrofit process can call GMC‘s customer service line at 1-800-462-8782, referring to GM customer satisfaction program number N222375791.

It should be noted that the front and rear park assist feature was also constrained on the GMC Acadia, while the rear park assist feature had limited availability on certain units of the GMC Canyon.
