GMC Acadia Recalled For Risk Of Exploding Driver Airbag Inflator

GM has issued a product recall for certain units of the GMC Acadia crossover over an issue with the driver’s side airbag inflator. The inflator may explode during deployment due to a manufacturing defect.

The problem: affected units of the GMC Acadia may be equipped with a driver’s side airbag inflator that could rupture and explode when deployed.

The profile of the GMC Acadia.

The hazards: if an airbag explodes during deployment, it may result in sharp metal fragments entering the cabin. These metal fragments may strike the driver or occupants and result in serious injury or death.

The fix: to fix this issue, certified GM technicians are instructed to replace the front driver’s airbag module. The replacement components do not include an airbag inflator that was manufactured during the same time period as the potentially faulty components being replaced. The replacement will be performed free of charge.

Affected components: this recall affects the front driver’s side airbag module.

Affected vehicles: 2014 through 2017 GMC Acadia.

Number of affected vehicles: it’s estimated that there are 293,143 units of the 2014 – 2017 GMC Acadia affected by this recall. Affected units were produced between March of the 2014 calendar year and March of the 2017 calendar year. Several other GM crossovers are also affected, including the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse. Stay tuned for more information on the recalls affecting these other GM models.

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected GMC Acadia units with letters set to be mailed out by June 26th, 2023. Owners will be instructed to make an appointment with their local dealer, where the issue will be fixed free of charge. 1. Now you are showing the new 17 models but list this as 14-17. Could this be the classic model and not the new model for one year. They did offer both the old and new in 17.

The photos could confuse people on this.

    1. “Affected units were produced between March of the 2014 calendar year and March of the 2017 calendar year.”

All someone needs to do is simply look at the manufacture date of their car. If it falls between the date range, they are affected.

  6. My Acadia has been sitting in the shop since the recall came out. No fix in sight. Looking for the regional service director number to call and complain. Anyone have it by chance? Live in the Phillly area.

  7. Anyone have any luck with this? Can’t trade the vehicle in because no one wants and vehicle they can’t sell. No parts and we are told we have been advised not to drive it. So…do we all just have a piece of scrap?
