GM Teases 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition: Video

General Motors just unveiled the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition, blessing the heavy-duty pickup nameplate with a pair of next-level off-roaders aimed squarely at enthusiasts. Notably, the debut also included a teaser for yet another off-roader model developed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), namely the upcoming 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

During the recent Sierra HD AT4X debut, an example of the new heavy-duty AT4X AEV Edition was seen towing a trailer carrying a midsize pickup shrouded in black. Although specific details were not provided, the mystery truck could really only be one thing – the upcoming 2024 GMC Canyon AEV Edition.

A teaser showing the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

Although most of the truck was covered up, a few select bits and pieces were left out in the open to confirm our suspicions, starting with the black beadlock-capable Salta wheels. Wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler rubber, this is exactly the sort of running gear we’d expect from the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

Further evidence was found around the front bumper, where the black cover was lifted just enough to reveal an AEV badge, which looks to be attached to a unique bumper offering enhanced ground clearance. Also expect to find a unique high-clearance bumper for the rear end.

Underneath the rig, we spotted some tough-looking skid plates, as well as upgraded suspension bits with long-travel Multimatic DSSV dampers. Unsurprisingly, the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will follow in the footsteps of the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison with regard to suspension spec, incorporating hydraulic bump stops. The AEV Edition’s ride height will also be taller than that of the regular Canyon AT4X, which already has a three-inch lift from the factory.

As for motivation, the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will cradle the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B Turbo High-Output gasoline engine, which is rated at a maximum of 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The updated GMT 31XX-2 platform with provide the bones, while production will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. Bison equivalent ?

    1. Yes, and more attractive (to my eyes) with the Canyon’s styling. Several sources talk about a possible power bump as part of the package, but I can’t see them certifying another tune of the 2.7T that’s not shared with at least one other truck.

The original ZR2 Bison got lots of positive press, so it only makes sense that they’d carry the AEV treatment over to everything in the stable. The 2024 Bison prototype had a lot of tongues wagging, so a Canyon version should have no problem carrying that momentum. Should be a hit!

      2. What a joke GMC has totally failed in getting the 2923’s out on time. Head’s should roll for the blotched roll out! Everyone tired of waiting and are buying the Toyota Tacoma.

        1. This makes zero sense. The new Tacoma hasn’t even been shown yet. They’re probably not going to be shipping to customers until very late this year or early next. No one upset they can’t get a truck right now is going to be buying the Tacoma….

          1. The Tacoma 2024’s are yet shown but if they up the Towing capacity, horsepower and put a better transmission in the 2024’s they will continue to capture most of the market for sure. If I knew Toyota would do this for 2024 I would consider cancelling my order on my never arriving GM and wait for the 2024 Tacoma

  2. Whoopi do. Tease a 2024 model and they can’t even get the 2023’s out the door.

    1. Can they not get 2023s out the door, or have they just not gotten yours out the door? Yes, there is a difference…

      1. They can’t get any out the door. I only know of 1 delivered in the entire state! Here it is May, That’s pathetic

  3. Here we go again. More “teasers”. When will GM get their act together? These “new” editions are just plain idiotic! $80,000 plus. And one still has a “pretty over priced SUV”. No one any more, is making a REAL truck. One has to jump up to the HD line, to even come close now days. And even then, they are far from what a pick up should be. Most of the new stuff is just palin over priced JUNK! We used to cll this krap, “Mall Cruisers”. Now one can order it from the dealer. Sad, sad, sad!!!!!

    1. Agree. The trucks from all three manufatures,. are just palin ugly. Notice how the truck sales at all the auctions, are going out of site? The classic ’70’s and the Square bodys are going nuts. Maybe GM can take a page in styling from them. Meanwhile, the consumer, is stuck with what they say, we really need. To that, I say B.S.!!!!!

  5. The spare in the bed kills it for me. I guess 33 is the biggest that fits between the frame rails. The bed is already small and a 35 in there takes up alot of space and covers the back window. Think I will stick with a standard ZR2 . 35s look awesome though.
