GM Confirms 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ Fully Electric SUV In New Teaser

After years of speculation and rumors, General Motors has finally confirmed that the Cadillac Escalade IQ – an upcoming all-electric variant of the Escalade – is on its way.

Set to be revealed later this year, the all-new Escalade IQ will provide the same levels of craftsmanship, technology, and performance that allowed the ICE-powered Escalade to successfully compete in the large luxury SUV segment for the past two decades. The electrified Escalade will join the likes of the Cadillac Lyriq and upcoming Cadillac Celestiq as the luxury marque continues to develop its all-electric portfolio.

For those who may be wondering about the rationale behind the IQ nomenclature, this naming strategy is used to distinguish Cadillac electric vehicles from other EVs, with a focus on working in tandem with the customer’s daily lives and environments. Of course, the IQ nomenclature first debuted with the all-electric Lyriq, and continues with the Escalade IQ.

As previously reported by GM Authority, The General has plans to unveil three Cadillac EV models over the course of the 2023 calendar year. While no further details have been released regarding this forecast, we expect this to include a compact crossover positioned below the Cadillac Lyriq, along with the aforementioned Escalade IQ and the extended-wheelbase Cadillac Escalade IQL. In addition, GM did confirm that the start of regular production (SORP) for all three EVs is currently scheduled to commence sometime in the 2024 calendar year, possibly as 2025 model-year vehicles.

Overall, this Escalade IQ teaser doesn’t come as much of a surprise to most. In fact, GM Authority reported that the Escalade could become its own EV sub-brand, which include the likes of a three-row crossover.

It’s worth noting that as of the time of this writing, no further details about the all-electric Cadillac Escalade IQ have been revealed.

    This is truly just the pinnacle of GM/Cadillac’s lack of good decisions and/or judgement. Some moron comes up with an idea that having names for EV’s that end in IQ is good in some way. In the case of the Lyriq and Celestiq, I simply said little because they at least gave them names. Anything is better than XT? and CT? or whatever else they thought was smart. But to tack the IQ letters to the end of the Escalade just shows how lame they have become. Trying very hard to save a stupid idea. Just more stuff glued to the back along with their other (not) smart idea of putting a rounded up number for the Nm of torque.

      Just move on already. Working in a fleet department at a competitors dealership doesn’t make you qualified for any decision making within the ranks of GM.

        I’ve made it my mission to badmouth GM at every chance I get when they deserve it. The only people defending GM on most anything they are doing would be the GM apologists that think GM can do no wrong.

        Do you truly feel sticking an “IQ” to the back of an EV Escalade is something a multi-billion dollar company should do? They should and can do much better.

        Do you truly feel that sticking cheap plastic numbers on the back of a Cadillac signifying Nm of torque is a smart thing?

        Do you feel that GM killing the Bolt just to make more room for very expensive trucks is smart? If it about nothing but money, then you got me. But it’s not just about money in the short term. That’s bad strategy.

        Do you truly feel that “naming” vehicles such as XT, CT, AT, XL or whatever else they come up with is smart?

        I could go on for a month with the stupid and bad decisions GM makes. But you wouldn’t care. You are a GM apologist to the core. And BTW, I don’t come on here to make friends or for votes.

        2. I’ve come to the reality long ago that I couldnt care less about the name of a vehicle. Letters/numbers or a name really aren’t a big deal. As long as I can distinguish from one product to another with that name. Life is too short! What’s the point of complaining that Cadillac has added IQ to the Escalade name to distinguish it from the ICE version?

          Regarding the Bolt. It’s unfortunate they’re discontinuing it but I totally get it. It’s on an old platform and it needs to change. The current facility it’s being produced in is transitioning to product that will be profitable at that facility. An updated Bolt wouldn’t be because of the price point. There will be a future model available at a price point below the Equinox and likely built in Mexico. It just hasn’t been announced. And there may be a period of time that there is no EV in that segment from GM. Management is weighing these decisions and figuring out the best way forward even if it doesn’t meet every customer want. Again, life is too short. Get over it!

          1. We are involved in one of the biggest transformations of the automobile since the ICE first became popular 100 years ago.
            GM is doing a great job keep ICE vehicles current and updated while bring a whole range of new EVs to market. Their will be times that some segments may be missing as old is phased out and new product is launched.
            GM management for many reasons do not share their product plans will all of the armchair CEOs out their who have opinions . Mary and her team have done a great job taking the business forward, with product , both ICE and EV, while meeting profit targets , something that Ford, Toyota and some other large auto companies are struggling to achieve.
            I do not always like what GM does and how it affects what I purchase. I have had new GM vehicles all my life and buy them because I truly like them. Since my first new chevy in Dec of 1973, i now have had over 40 new GM vehicles , and waiting to order my next new vehicle a 2024 Colorado Z71
            I leave the management of the business (gm) to those who are paid to do those jobs , and for my part I enjoy having a new GM car/ truck or SUV, as much today as I did on my first new car when I just 18.

        6. Dan, you and I have had our differences before. I’ve heard you say in past comments and I agree with you about using nomenclatures for automobiles is stupid to say the least.
          Gone are the days of giving Cadillacs iconic names and giving them letters that nobody likes.

          I think GM recognizes that mistake and there going back to names with the launch of there EV’s and there IQ names that I myself don’t care for. But here we have the Escalade that became an iconic name among the Eldorado and Seville’s that were still being built.
          So it makes perfectly good sense to me to keep the Escalade name and just add the IQ to it.

          2. Al: I don’t disagree with you at all, but do have one question. Why use anything (EV or IQ) for this? The Escalade, although not a vehicle I’d ever want, has rightfully established a very strong name recognition. So why the need to elaborate on being an EV at all? IMO, adding EV in not needed and adding IQ is just stupid.

            1. Dan, sorry I disagree with you. Lets look to the past here. Every division of General Motors made a car that would appeal to all different incomes, and different ages.
              Example: Chevrolet, the blue collar division made the Chevelle with several sub brands like Malibu, 2 and 4 doors, deluxe, SS. Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile made the same examples of the same platform Buick Skylark/ GS, Oldsmobile Cutlass/ 442 Pontiac LeMans/ GTO. Cadillac Fleetwood, Brougham, Sixty Special, Biarritz all on the same platform. Buick which I know you love, me too, made the Riviera/ Wild Cat. Dan I’m not talking down to you, I know you are well aware of this. So all these makes and models were made to appeal to different ages, comfort and wealth with engines, transmissions. The first car I bought was a Trans Am, yes it was a Firebird but to me it was a Trans Am. The Escalade IQ is nothing more then an SS, GS, GNX, GTO that had different power trains. Again Dan, not talking down to you, just giving something for you to meditate on.

    2. If they are going to have the same vehicle in an ICE and EV version, what would you suggest calling the EV version? Escalade EV? They have to use some moniker to differentiate the car. EV is generic. I think IQ sounds better than EV. It’s stickier in the mind of the consumer.

      1. reality check: Do you have some type of information you’d like to share where GM said the Bolt was only going to be a short term vehicle? Had I known they were going to kill it, I would never have spent my money on it. I’ve never said nor inferred that GM is obligated to keep making it. I’m pissed that I supported GM once again only to have it thrown in my face that they won’t keep making it. F GM.

        As for needing to call it an EV. Why? Where does it say that an EV must have the EV (or some other type of name) attached to it? Why can’t it just be called Escalade like the rest of them. But at least calling it EV would make some sense. What is IQ? What does it mean? So you think it sounds better, but I’m certain many won’t. In fact, it sounds like something my kids would say and they are both pre-teens yet.

            1. They made the decision based on knowing their customers and that they could make the Escalade in current form electrified. Think of the costs they save in engineering and parts.

              Secondly, consumers who buy expensive vehicles prefer badging that differentiates their model from other trims. Whether you agree with it or not it is what the market likes.

              A BMW buyer wants the M on his car if they upgrade to that package. Ev’s are considered a luxury or exclusive car right now. So, those who buy an Escalade will want an IQ on their SUV.

              This should not be difficult to understand Dan. I don’t suppose you pulled out your heat gun to remove the badging from your cars huh?

        3. Yes, I do have information I can share and has been known to the automotive world from the word go.

          The Bolt was never going to have the Ultium battery system, which is what their EV strategy is built on.

          They called the Bolt a “key-enabler in launching high-volume EV products in mulitple segements”. They made these comments early on as published in Autoweek.

          Now that they are getting ready to launch new vehicles in the next year, they can rid of the Bolt. Enter Trailblazer EV. Get it?

          How about those apples?

  3. my IQ tells me that GM will continue to support EV production with V8 ICE for 10 more years and the company will lose $$$ as a result. Bara is not a good decision maker.

    1. GM makes pennies if anything on EVs. The HD V8 trucks make a rather large profit per truck. 15k-20k per truck. That is what is paying for the EV shift.

    1. They are appealing to the ev market movement, they have to do something or risk losing customers. If battery technology improves as it probably will, then ev cars will sustain. Gas/diesel vehicles will be here longer than they anticipate.

        Too late. I’m gone and how many others have left GM due to them turning their backs on the working men and women like me? Want a sedan? Take the half hearted attempt or go pound sand. Want an American Buick? Buy the over-sized SUV or go pound sand. Want or need a low priced entry level vehicle? Be willing to spend $25,000 or more. If you can’t afford it or don’t like it, go pound sand. I could go on.

        GM has rounded that corner and is only interested in people willing to spend 50 grand or more.

          gm didn’t tell you to pound sand. They make products for their customers today, not yesteryear. They’ve chosen their markets and use their expertise to compete in it.

          If you want a sedan, then go buy one from someone else. BMW makes cars in South Africa, and MB makes cars in Mexico. It doesn’t make them less of a German car.

          gm’s interest is in making money and thriving. They don’t want to go through a bailout again.

  11. Holy poop!!!!! What will it have a 200 KWH battery and 11,000 pound curb weight? Plan on a full day on a level 2 charger to charge that bad boy 🙂 LOL. No thanks I will stick with my diesel Suburban with it’s 750 mile range and 5 minute fill ups 🙂 LOL

  12. I’m sure this is another strangely named really expensive vehicle to further distance Mary’s GM from the reality of the average person. Not a winning strategy to occupy this market but I guess no longer a mass market company.

    Give more market to the Toyotas, Kias, et al
