GM has issued a voluntary emissions recall for certain units of the 2021 to 2023 Chevy Express that may have an incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label attached.
The recall also applies to certain units of the 2021 to 2023 GMC Savana.
The problem: affected vehicles may have an incorrect maximum completed vehicle frontal area value printed on their Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label.
The hazards: the Vehicle Emissions Control Information label may contain information that is not correct.
The fix: certified GM technicians will inspect the vehicle and if necessary remove the incorrect Vehicle Emissions Control Information label. They will then replace it with a new VECI containing the correct maximum completed vehicle frontal area value.
Additionally, GM placed affected units of the Chevy Express on a stop delivery in Canada starting on March 30th, 2023. Dealers in both Canada and the U.S. are instructed by GM to keep unsold inventory of the affected Chevy Express until the correct fix can be applied. Unsold units should not be sold, delivered, traded with other dealerships, or used for demonstrations until the correct Vehicle Emissions Control Information label has been installed.
Involvement of a specific Chevy Express unit in the recall can be confirmed by looking on the GM Global Warranty Management System to see if it’s marked “Open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen. This check should be carried out before a new label is applied.
Affected components: Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label.
Affected vehicles:
- 2021 Chevy Express
- 2022 Chevy Express
- 2023 Chevy Express
- 2021 GMC Savana
- 2022 GMC Savana
- 2023 GMC Savana
Number of affected vehicles: GM has not indicated how many Chevy Express units are affected at this time.
Owners should: GM is mailing notification letters to all owners of affected Chevy Express units informing them of the recall. A replacement Vehicle Emissions Control Information label is enclosed with the letter, which the owner should bring to the dealership so it can be used to replace the incorrect label. If no label is mailed with the notification letter, the dealership can order the correct label online.

Who cares , I have had 3 of these on order for 3 years . Just get us the damn vans
Jason , where do you reside ? I live in RI and have had 1 van on order since April 30, 2021 and 1 on order since Nov 2022
In Wisconsin I’ve had one on order since 12/9/2021 and the November 2022.
WOW ! I thought I was waiting the longest ! You have me beat by 4 months ! I initially ordered an 8cyl cargo van with only a few options necessary like a limited slip differential . I was informed by my dealership ,(after many, many calls), to order a 6cyl . They told me that was the big holdup. So , that’s what I ordered in November 2022. All I hear from them is crickets…………. Did you also order an 8cyl cargo van ? Have you heard anything about production time ? I have only been told that the order has been accepted .
First one was a v8 2nd one a v6 because v8 was not an option.
gm doesn’t tell anyone anything 🙁
Yea vans and trucks. I like vans. I want a class B van RV.
Jeez, how could they mess up labeling information on a vehicle that hasn’t changed in nearly two decades now?, but I will digress….
