The GM Authority Take

Sales of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban duo again kept the Bow Tie brand at the top of the mainstream full-size SUV segment. When combined with their corporate cousins, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, GM commands nearly two-thirds of the space in spite of competitors’ new and updated models.

We attribute the very solid increase in Chevy Tahoe and Suburban sales to two reasons:

  1. The duo is a very attractive and desirable product, and
  2. Availability of both nameplates was much improved during the first quarter

Also worth noting is that the aging Nissan Armada moved ahead of the all-new Jeep Wagoneer and all-new Toyota Sequoia, but all were still all at the bottom with sales under 8K units or less for each.

About Chevy Tahoe And Suburban

The Tahoe and Suburban were overhauled (re-engineered and redesigned) for the 2021 model year as the 2021 Chevy Tahoe and 2021 Chevy Suburban. That overhaul included the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL as well the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

The all-new generation for the Tahoe and Suburban added several new trim levels to the lineup – notably, RST, Z71, and High Country – plus a new Duramax diesel engine option, fresh styling, a redesigned interior, and the latest tech features for comfort, convenience, and safety.

The 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2023 Chevy Suburban received just a handful of updates over the 2022 Tahoe and 2022 Suburban. Most notably they receive a new Advanced Technology Package that includes, for the first time ever on the two full-size SUVs, GM’s hands-free, semi-autonomous Super Cruise driver assistance technology along with expanded coverage.

Furthermore, Chevy is now offering the new 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST Performance Edition, which features upgrades that make it a more engaging vehicle to drive.

Despite the current Tahoe and Suburban selling like hotcakes, GM is already testing a refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban. Last March our spies caught a prototype of the refreshed 2024 Tahoe undergoing testing and a year later the 2024 Chevy Tahoe High Country testing again. The upcoming model will feature revised front and rear fascias, including a new two-tiered lighting setup. Inside, the refreshed models will boast a revised cockpit and layout with a new infotainment system screen.

These updated models will only cement GM’s domination of the lucrative full-size SUV segment even more, which is second only to the bread-and-butter full-size truck space.

  3. How times have changed. 43% market share in one vehicle segment is phenomenal in itself. During the 1960’s GM had almost 50% share of the entire market. Chevrolet in itself was larger than the entire Ford Motor Company. No wonder GM is pushing to enter new markets around the world.

  5. Have/Still do own two Tahoes 2018 (Z71) and 2022. I call it the universal vehicle; it drives well, it is sized right, excellent storage areas, built well. The 2022’s ride is even better. The electronics are excellent. The 5.3L engine is solid but a bit more power would be nice. Fuel mileage is ok for a vehicle this strong and heavy. Tow rating at 8,200 lbs is nice to have. Have pulled a 5,000 lb boat, an easy hauling experience.
