Check Out This LS3-Powered 1949 Chevy 3100 Restomod

What happens when an enthusiast wants the old-school looks of a classic American hot-rod, but with the modern performance of the today’s vehicles? Well, the owner of this Chevy 3100 pickup truck certainly hit the nail on the head with this build featured on Chevy’s The Block, melding the iconic look of the 3100 truck with the contemporary performance technologies of today.

After purchasing a 1948 Chevy 3100 for his wife, owner Sam Goldsmith decided that he wanted a similar – but better – version of his own 3100 pickup truck. As such, Goldsmith found a 1949 model for sale in Dallas, Texas, and shipped the pickup off to Young At Heart Customs for the restomod. Originally featuring a 235ci I6 gasoline engine, every nut and bolt on this truck has been touched or modified in the name of performance and modernization. In fact, the cab is technically all that remains of the original vehicle.

Taking inspiration from Craig Morrison’s “Farm Truck” build, Goldsmith decided that he wanted to go all out on his. This translates into an Art Morrison GT chassis from MetalWorks in Eugene, Oregon, along with a Connect & Cruise package from General Motors. More specifically, this truck build has the handling chops to take a corner better than any stock 3100, and features a Chevy Performance LS376/480 crate engine and the GM 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission. Total output is rated at 495 horsepower and 473 pound-feet of torque.

Additional performance features include Wilwood brakes, a coilover suspension setup, 18-inch billet aluminum wheels, and a tubbed rear end.

On the inside, this truck features a leather bench seat, an under-dash A/C vent panel, custom control knobs, ididit steering column, custom Tri-Five steering wheel, Vintage Air, Retro Sound Audio, Focal speakers in custom kick panel enclosures, and Dakota Digital RTX Series gauges.

What do you think, dear reader? Is this 1949 Chevy 3100 tastefully modified, or has been too modernized? Let us know in the comment section below!
