The GM Authority Take

Buick Envision sales soared during Q1, keeping the compact premium crossover in second place in its segment, in much the same way as it did last quarter, and within 1.5K deliveries of first. Even better, combining sales of the Envision with the Cadillac XT4 pushed GM to the top of the segment to account for a third of all deliveries.

We attribute the healthy uptick to GM having remedied parts and supply chain issues for the model. Overall, Buick’s new vehicle inventory stood at a 120 days supply in February, though slightly down from more than 140 days supply as of the end of December 2022 and 121 days supply in November. A 60-day supply is considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry by many automotive sales organizations such as the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA). For reference, a 60-day inventory level means that dealerships have enough inventory on hand to sustain sales volume for roughly the next 60 days.

With inventory levels continuing to strengthen and a refreshed Envision on the way to bolster the product, we expect sales of the Tri-Shield brand’s compact premium crossover to continue upward as it nips at the heels of the perpetual segment-leading Lexus NX for top honors.

About Buick Envision

The 2023 Buick Envision represents the third model year of the crossover’s second generation. It remains largely unchanged from the 2022 Buick Envision save for a few updates to the color palette and equipment, including new standard equipment added to the Avenir trim level.

The crossover continues to be powered solely by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel-drive standard and all-wheel-drive optional.

In December Consumer Reports named Buick Envision among the best vehicles to fit three child car seats, and in January it gave the 2023 Buick Envision a “recommended” rating.

Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision in base S trim

The 2024 Buick Envision will introduce a mid-cycle refresh that includes new styling and a revised interior. Back in October of last year we spied a refreshed 2024 Buick Envision testing in prototype form. Recently images of the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision S leaked in China showing the front fascia with the brand’s Pure Design language and the Tri-Shield brand’s new corporate face introduced on the most recent models such as the first-ever 2024 Buick Envista and refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX.

  1. Awesome news for an amazing vehicle! The Envision is as well built as any vehicle in the world. Buick has a great balanced attractive premium offering here, and just as clear for all to see, a sales winner! (And the refreshed model is fantastic looking, and coming soon). Congratulations again to Madam Barra, GM and Buick…… good job!

G.M. EMPLOYEE I KNOW WE COULD DO BETTER. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH HAVING THIS BEAUTIFUL
PRODUCT BUILT IN CHINA. THE 1ST QUARTER SOLD OVER 10 THOUSAND UNITS IN THE STATES VS LESS THAN 2
THOUSAND IN CANADA. THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS SEND US THE CARS WE WILL BUY THEM.

  4. Proof on how many read and use CR ratings. One quarter after the ratings report, sales jumped.
One year in the 1990’s working at Sears, suddenly many customers were asking for a particular lawn mower. It was last years model number. Each years Sears changed model numbers. When I asked, one stated it was rated number one by CR.

  6. These are starting to show up all over the place on the roads here in the Northeast. Then I remember it is imported from China and it just makes me sad that people are seemingly so willing to buy one of these. I would wager that over 80% of purchasers have no idea whatsoever that it is imported from China. There are some goods that I buy that are made in China simply because there is no US or “trade compliant” alternative. However something like a $40K+ vehicle is an absolute no if made in China.

    1. And Envision buyers probably do not realize that 25% of the purchase price of the Envision goes to the US government in the form of a tariff. It is essentially paying $50,000 for a $37,500 vehicle.

      1. This sounds like CCP propaganda at its finest! The Envision forces you to spend $1,500 extra for OnStar which GM has never made a profit on in 29 years. It is a useless system that can be duplicated on a users existing
cell phone, and is buried in the purchase price. And be aware that GM is “handing” American technology to China with every vehicle sold.

  8. Personally I think this will be as good as it gets. The current model is a very attractive vehicle. That new front end and overall design language is not nearly as sporty looking (to me). Perhaps that is what the market wants though…

  9. Yeah, was thinking same. Pure is bland & reminds me of Ford Escape. There is an obvious market for Buick and, due to a less expensive price point, the brand could easily equal Lexus within a few years.
Hopefully GM hasn’t ruined things adding a new design language that isn’t necessary

    1. You’re posting on GM Authority and somehow you didn’t know that this vehicle is built in China until you read the fine print at the dealer?

  11. If it wasn’t China made, it be $10k more. US workers demand sick leave, medical, pension or 401k, more than two weeks vacation. It all adds up. Not that USA workers can’t do the Job and are good workers. If you have an iPhone, parts made in the USA, final assembly in China.

  12. Bought the 2022 Avenir trim last August. Have been very happy with the car as it rides so smoothly and quietly, and has a very decent amount of torque when having to pass on the freeway. In my 8000 miles so far of both freeway and city driving, the Avenir has a combined average of 28.4mpg. My wife thinks my Emvision seats are more comfy than her 2016 Enclave top of the line Premium seats. Glad I bought it when I did because the upcoming front design looks hideous!! I was a bit nervous about it being assembled in China, but fit and finish is perfect so far.
