Sales Numbers - Lexus RX Family - Q1 2023 - USA

MODEL Q1 23 / Q1 22 Q1 23 Q1 22
RX -3.16% 25,947 26,795
TOTAL -3.16% 25,947 26,795

For the sake of reference, we’re providing sales figures for the Lexus RX below. Unlike the new generation that’s currently launching, the last generation of the vehicle was offered in both two- and three-row versions, the latter of which competed in the same general space as the aforementioned three-row models. Since Lexus does not break out sales of the two-row RX from the three-row RX L, not all RX sales can be applied to the premium three-row CUV segment. Instead, a more apt comparison would be to compare RX family sales to combined sales of the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, and Buick Enclave.

Consequently the Lexus RX family accounted for 25,947 deliveries during the quarter, outselling the 20,850 combined deliveries posted by GM’s three entries. Incidentally, Lexus will soon have an all-new three-row model – the Lexus TX – to directly compete with the Buick Enclave and Cadillac XT6.

ENCLAVE +25.31% 8,803 7,025
TOTAL +31.98% 20,850 15,798

The premium three-row crossover segment grew 30 percent to 55,474 units in Q1 2023, meaning Enclave sales underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Though Buick Enclave sales were very healthy during the first quarter of 2023, the model is still a distant second in its segment by sales volume. But keeping in mind that Buick has one of the oldest models in the segment, the model’s performance is still quite impressive.

We should also note that new vehicle inventory for Buick ran at 120 days supply in February 2023, giving dealers an ample amount of vehicles to meet consumer demand. Buick continues to be the GM brand with the highest inventory levels relative to sales, a situation that has been ongoing for months. The new vehicle supply for Buick is approximately double the 60 days supply considered optimal by the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA) and other auto retail organizations.

About Buick Enclave

The 2023 Buick Enclave arrives as the sixth model year of the second-generation crossover with minimal changes over the refreshed 2022 Buick Enclave.

Regarding the future of the full-size crossover, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed that the next-generation Buick Enclave will arrive in 2024.

“It’s our three-row made in Lansing, very profitable for us, and Buick’s flagship for now in the family-type luxury SUV segment,” Reuss said last fall during a presentation at the GM Investors Day event. “And again, the new design language for Buick, as well as the new badging as you’ve seen here over the last few months.”

  1. For those who say Buick “can’t catch a break,” this is a good showing.
