GM Authority has previously reported on a number of next-gen 2024 Toyota Tacoma developments, including spy spots and leaked images from a patent filing in Brazil. Today, a much more complete photo of the all-new 2024 Tacoma has been leaked on the internet.
While Toyota has not claimed that the photo is official, it does appear to be consistent with several of Toyota’s teasers. The new Tacoma has a more muscular and aggressive look, with a large front grille, a bold front bumper and a wide-track stance. The headlamps are more angular and have a more modern design, giving the truck a refreshed look.
On the inside, the interior is expected to be updated with a larger infotainment screen and a more ergonomic layout. The aforementioned spy shots also revealed a digital instrument cluster and a larger center console.
Thus far, Toyota has been tight-lipped about the details of the 2024 Tacoma, but this leaked photo confirms some of the rumors circulating about the truck. Furthermore, GM Authority reported that the Tacoma will be available with a hybrid powertrain.
The Japanese-based automaker has also been teasing different trims and features of the new Tacoma with a plethora of press releases, including the Trailhunter, geared towards off-road enthusiasts and features rugged upgrades such as all-terrain tires, skid plates, and rock sliders. The Japanese automaker also revealed that the Tacoma would be available with a manual transmission in addition to a detachable and portable JBL speaker.
The 2024 Tacoma is expected to be unveiled on May 19th. Of course, this all-new Tacoma will compete with the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon, both of which have been thoroughly redesigned for the 2023 model year.

Everyone but GM has somthing to show this month . Honestly not good month for GM
uhhhh……. the 2024 bison aev????
Yawn a 80,000 truck shame for price gouging and even more Shame for paying.
May 30 Chevrolet Colorado Bison
Well that’s somthing not the same magnitude but cool.
The new Colorado is either just hitting the streets or will be soon, not sure. They don’t need a huge unveiling every month. Either way, they have a more immediate availability on an all new truck over Toyota.
We all know Toyota will sell more either way.
Toyota will sell more because the styling is a good and most importantly, they have earned a solid reputation for this truck over 3 decades. Styling alone cannot overtake the market leader. GM has to prove itself and this is a long road.
Well considering that GM released 2 Colorado generations before Toyota did one, I’d say Toyota is the slacker.
The comment is more about how everyone else has big reveal this month except Chevy .
Just saw my first 24 Colorado trail boss in the spicy mustard yellow. Upstate NY. Not bad.
Good looking aggressively styled truck. The gm twins and Tacoma are best looking trucks. Nissan already looks dated and frumpy, and Ranger is uninteresting. As a former Tacoma TRD owner, it’s major drawback was seating position and power. Otherwise, they are good trucks.
Manual transmission option!! Very appealing
You might want to read my review about the 2023 Canyon:
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2023/05/2023-gmc-canyon-elevation-first-drive-review-with-video/
There’s a part in there about how GM listens to customers.
I think they did Alex. The breakthrough styling is the biggest change and improvement for Chevy and GMC. It’s no longer dull and aggressive styling in a truck is key. The Nissan Frontier is dated already. I do think the new Tacoma is a winner in styling as well. Do you agree?
Terrible Japanese trucks can’t beat Chevy trucks in all aspects: performance, durability, and design. Think about whether you see more old Chevy trucks or Toyota trucks on the road. My acquaintances who bought Tacoma around me suffer from all kinds of breakdowns. The 4WD-2WD switch function on the Tacoma is always problematic. Why does Toyota break down again even if it’s fixed?
Litterally hundreds of examples, and it’s called an S10. It takes age to build that mileage. Unfortunately the first gen Colorado had neither the number of years on the market nor the sales success to get that many examples out there, but most are still on the road.
Toyotas actually are average at best for reliability. They’re reputation is largly built off the fact that they keep the prices too high to be bought by contractors that put them through hell, yet hundreds of contractor Chevys are still rolling when nannied yotas are hauled off to the scrap yard.
@Alex G The reliability angle is mentioned often, but no one has any reliable data to actually prove it.
How about you show me a Tacoma with a decent infotainment system. Better yet, let’s take a Tacoma on a moderate off-road course and stop it when one wheel is up in the air. Will its cab get all misaligned from the box due to a weak frame, as experienced by the current gen model?
Let’s see how the market speaks when the 2023 GM models and the 2024 Ranger are running full bore. I’ll set a reminder for this time next year.
Also, let’s cool it with the personal attacks on minds. There’s no need for that.
I’d like to see a 4wd Toyota with actual fuel economy that is class leading.
All the effort to redo the Tundra and actual observed mileage is still horrible.
Best resale value of any vehicle in the world. 62% after 3 years. Tacoma dominates.
Show me a Chevy Colorado with 400,000 miles on the original powertrain.
I’ll wait.
(Also deleting this comment Alex doesn’t change reality or make GM look better. It actually makes GM & its bootlicking fan base look even more pathetic)
There are 5 Tacoma’s on Auto Trader with over 400k miles and 1 Colorado, considering how many more years the Tacoma was sold and in higher numbers is about right. Plenty of high mileage Twins out there and they have shown to be plenty reliable. While they have gotten better Toyota has arguable gotten worse and too many are stuck on their 1980’s and 90’s folk lore, these days they aren’t the same overly reliable trucks, they are on par with everyone else (either Toyota has fallen in reliability or the others have caught up).
Either way, you talk about bootlicking, have you seen what koolaid the Toyota fan boys drink and prod around talking?
COMMONSENSE? Toyota had a good reputation in the 80s & 90s? naah boomer Americans were still die hard GM/FORD in these 2 decades it wasnt until the 2000s that people woke up to see the American quality severely behind, suffered. you’re the one stuck in the 80s/90s American “quality”. Did the proud boys OR Truth social tell you that Japenese is not reliable?
Kevin/Manny – have you actually looked at Consumer Reports for Toyota Tacoma reliability? It is in fact ‘average’. Many/most American cars are rated as ‘average’ at this point. Did Mother Jones/Huffington Post/MSN tell you otherwise?
Consumer Reports is the biggest joke in town. They’ve been in love with Japanese vehicles since they first came to America- probably because Toyota “donates” so much money to them to keep them non-biased.
At any rate, I’ve driven GM trucks for decades without any issues. They just don’t break down.
You are probably right about that, however, just judging by Kevin’s words, I think he may have full faith in Consumer Reports, as well as Mother Jones. If he would just look at their data for the Tacoma, he would see that they aren’t particularly impressed.
Manny send me your email, and I will send you a picture of my Chevy’s odometer with 441,382 miles on it (I bought truck brand new) original motor (including the original timing chain in motor) I can also send you the repair bill on the Honda with under 100,000 miles. Oh and the Honda replaced a Toyota Camry that was also a disappointment. But hey we were younger and stupid and bought into the whole Japanese quality myth that the father in law was selling at the time.
In-laws are now in a new cadillac XT5 and also have Ford Edge…hmmmm
Not related to the Tacoma Colorado milage comparison but I have a 1999 k2500 suburban 454 big block with over 300k miles have officially spent more on gas than the original msrp from 1999
Are you being sarcastic?
Or are you a troll?
Looks good. Not as good as the gm twins but looks good.
Is there no end to all these big, dumb, ugly trucks?
maybe a Prius is more your style.
This looks awesome Toyota does it again! I’m glad I come to this site to remind myself never buy American again.
The Tacoma is as “American” as the Chevys or Fords.
But pray tell, what’s your reason for buying the Taco over a Colorado or Canyon?
(Please tell me it’s the manual transmission, which will make up no more than ten percent of overall sales).
For me it would be the manual transmission option. I could care less what percentage of the overall sales are with a manual. I enjoy driving a manual and at least offering it as an option is nice.
You should definitely keep buying the vastly inferior Toyota products because you’ve been brainwashed into thinking they’re in some way better. I sat in the new Toyota Tundra, 4Runner and Sequoia. They felt at least 5 years older than the comparable Chevy products. Yawn.
Can some one familiar with Japanese products explain to me why you have to spend $1800.00 Dollars every 100,000 miles to replace timing belt along with water pump…..they, Honda and Toyota call this routine maintenance? Who are they fooling (besides Kevin)
If you had to do this in a GM or Ford product they would call it problematic.
A have bought many new cars & trucks over the years, never ever had to replace timing chain in any GM or Ford product I ever owned and most of them have had well over 100,000 miles when them traded in. One over 400,000. The Honda Odyssey 91,000 miles we had to spend $1865.00 to get it running (not to mention countless nickel and dime repairs in the last 7 years) right after check engine light came on and would stall, run rough. Honda dealer said it’s routine maintenance on Hondas also Toyotas they all need this…..to me Honda and Toyota have been my most costly vehicles in repairs on long term ownership. Oh and the only reason my girl got the Honda was because the Toyota Camry needed a timing belt…go figure.
If you aren’t aware Toyota has more assembly plants in the US than the original big 3 from Detroit combined
D james, do more research before you post please,
GM has 93,923 US employees
Toyota has 40,000 US employees (so less then half)
GM has way more production facilities in the USA!!
Toyota profits go overseas
I have driven both Toyota and GM products recently and I promise you anyone that test drives a 2023 Toyota Tacoma and test drives a 2023 Colorado and then buys the Tacoma is a complete fool. There is absolutely no doubt that the Colorado is light years ahead. The Toyota is even far behind even the last generation Colorado. I know this because after the frustration of waiting months for the Colorado to come in a got fed up and test drove Tacoma…oh what a disappointment!!
As a five-time S-10 and four-time Colorado buyer (all brand new) I have to say, a manual transmission, extended cab 4X4 midsize truck sounds GREAT to me.
Yes bring back the manual transmission I had a 87 s10 blazer Tahoe package back in high-school that was 5speed manual and I miss it
Let’s see if Toyota leaves all of their customers hanging for months on end with orders that have been placed and trucks just sitting at a factory with no explanation on what is going on in GM Authority, pretty much twiddling their thumbs with nothing burgers on information this will be interesting
We had an answer to that. It was the EPA. We’ll see if the EPA also holds back the taco
Ordered a 2022 silverado 2500 crew cab 8′ bed gasser in January 2022 took 3 months to get delivered now 1 year into ownership and was well worth the wait
It is very nice to see the major players making real efforts in the mid-size class again. We will know more later, but with what we know about the new GM/Ford/Toyota mid-sizers, this looks to be the biggest series of generational upgrades in my lifetime! I’ll stick with my GMC HD, but these mid-sizers look very appealing!
Well, I was expecting a smaller take off from the Tundra design so this more modern variation of the current Tacoma is a surprise. I believe the new Tacoma will be a formidable competitor, and will continue being the number one best selling midsize pickup. This time around however I think the Colorado/Canyon twins will outsell the Tacoma overall. Both the Chevy and GMC midsize trucks are extremely well done and attractive to potential buyers, they are already making a impact in the marketplace.
Sales of the GMC/ Chevy midsize trucks will have more to do with GM’s ability to produce the trucks.
Toyo sells more than 200k Tacomas a year , Gm only has capacity to build about 150k midsize trucks , so unless GM ads more build capacity Toyota will always sell more mid size trucks. Go to any GM dealer in this part of the country in the last year and there is virtually no mid size trucks on any GM lots . Those on the way and mostly sold before the dealer gets them.
The real question is will people continue to buy the Taco just because it’s a Toyota even though it rides worse, handles worse, and lags in tech. Of course, I’m speaking of previous gen and no one knows for sure how this iteration will objectively stack up against newest GM Twins. I have driven previous gens of both Toy and GM and don’t suffer from undying brand loyalty.
I believe that will be figured out when Mpg and engine specs are confirmed . Those two things people complain most about tacomas . Mpg and power on the Highway . We all know they can do lot things off road . I suspect pricing for tacoma will be bit higher after the base trim. Curious what pricing on elevation vs sr5x which just a 4×4 taco without pro package
Your mechanic appreciates your brand loyalty. 🙂 hey at least they are sticking with apple carplay
Everyone is but GM .. which is crazy since they will get subscription fee off you on top of your 420 bare monthly payment
Tacoma outsold GM 237k to 117k in 2022, not quite 5-1 as you suggest. There is a Honda Accord with a bed, it is called a Ridgeline, GM outsold it 117k to 42k in 2022. Time will tell if the new Tacoma will increase it’s sales lead, I personally doubt it, but it does look good…but so does the new Colorado/Canyon.
The new Toyota looks quite Colorado like. Oh what a feeling!
Where do you get your statistics (pulled out of thin air), you are WAY off…but I guess being accurate is not the point for you.
i totally agree with “ocnblu”….ALL of these truck manufacturers are missing what most REAL truck buyers want :: a TWO door, manual transmission, extended cab 4X4 midsize truck with a FULL size bed …..I’ve had both a 1995 S-10 and a 2011 GMC canyon EXT cab and they were the best size, most functional, easy loading vehicles than these new HUGE 4 door small bed , VERY expensive trucks.,
Well I have a 2022 silverado 2500 crew cab 8′ bed gasser ….. work construction. But would love to see 2 door Tahoe with trail boss package something along the lines of a k5 blazer now that’s something I’d purchase considering if I could afford
Hello, McFly. Toyota took American bailout money (along with BMW and Ford) and they even asked the Japanese government for more for their financial arm… Nice try though! Keep drinking that koolaid from the 80’s and 90’s.
I don’t work for GM nor have I ever, most Americans don’t know that GMs head quarters buildings was actually built by the Ford motor Company. Years ago the US government would not allow GM to have monopoly on auto market….Ford was going bankrupt…..so the US government forced GM to bail out Ford by buying There buildings so GM would not have monopoly….look it up.
GM has had more USA employees and paid out more money in pensions to American workers over any other company in history ….that’s what the big reason for “bail out was” bail out retirement pensions, so the uniformed people that say “government motors” are really clueless.
