In an exciting development for off-roaders looking for one of the latest and most capable trail-ready trucks, the all-new 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is set to be revealed on July 6th. The brand also provided this image to whet our appetite.
One-upping even the rugged and powerful 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X, the AEV Edition is a collaborative effort with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) that brings even more trail-conquering potential to the nameplate.
we recently caught a glimpse of the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, as GM teased the new midsize off-roader at the same time it revealed the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X and Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition. Towed onto the scene on a trailer pulled by the Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition, the Canyon was mostly concealed under a black tarp – but with a few details flirtatiously displayed, as we can see by hitting play on the video below.
Something that caught our eye right away was a peek of high-clearance bumper revealed by one corner of the tarp being folded up, with an AEV badge displayed. There’s almost certainly a similar bumper at the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition’s rear.
Together, the bumpers will offer rugged protection while giving improved approach and departure angles. The clearance those bumpers provide will let adventurous drivers make the most of the off-roading potential offered by both the 35-inch mud-terrains, fitted to black beadlock-capable Salta wheels, and the suspension lift, which is even higher than the 3-inch factory lift on the “ordinary” 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X.
Checking out the undercarriage of the trailer-toted Canyon AT4X AEV Edition confirmed several other expected features. These include some robust skid plates covering the truck’s vitals, hydraulic bump stops, and long-travel Multimatic DSSV dampers.
GM Authority has been bringing your exclusive spy shots of the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition for some time now. We brought you photos of a road-testing prototype back in October 2022, though at that time the model year wasn’t certain. We followed up with more spy shots in December ’22, giving you views of an AT4X AEV Edition that, despite its camo, clearly resembles the production truck in the teaser image above.
Since then, it was revealed that the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition would debut as a 2024 model. The AEV Edition takes the off-roading capabilities of the Canyon AT4X and dials them up to the next level, seeking to appeal to dedicated overlanding enthusiasts,
The turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B Turbo High-Output gasoline engine, which develops 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, will supply the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition with the power it needs to overcome the most rugged terrain. The updated GMT 31XX-2 platform provides structure, while production will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.
You can see for yourself what GM Authority spotted in the video below, as Executive Editor Alex Luft walks us through both the revealed and expected features of this hard-charging premium variant of the next-generation 2024 GMC Canyon:

I thought may 31? Or was that just the bison? Why not show them off at the same time ? The raptor ranger is 56,960 really 57k .. so if this cheaper by even 1k GM can take victory lap
Bison is on may 31 and then july 6th is the canyon
That’s odd they do it on different days since they are suppose to be counterparts and all . But thanks
No chance this is less expensive than the Ranger Raptor. It should be significantly ahead of the Raptor in basically every area but engine power. 35″ is a larger tire. The regularl ZR2 has the same suspension travel length as the Ranger Raptor… this has even longer travel versions of the DSSV shocks. Hydraulic bumpstops (not offered on Raptor). And then you have the AEV armor like the steel winch bumper (not offered on Raptor), rear steel bumper (not offered on Raptor), and full suite of heavy duty skid plates (AEV’s skid plates are leagues better than anything Ford offers).
If the ZR2 Desert Boss is around $66K…. this has to cost the same or slightly more.
And I’ll admit… to a less sophisticated buyer who doesn’t understand why having more suspension travel or hydraulic bumpstops is more important for off-road performance than horsepower… this is will be tricky to market. But for discerning buyers this is a very compelling package.
