The 2024 Chevy Trax debuts an all-new generation for the nameplate, dropping in as the Bow Tie brand’s latest entry-level ICE-powered crossover. Inside the cabin, the all-new Chevy Trax is considerably roomier than the preceding generation, with more legroom and more cargo volume. Now, however, we’re comparing the 2024 Chevy Trax to another small GM crossover, specifically the all-new 2024 Buick Envista, focusing specifically on interior room and cargo room.
Critically, the 2024 Chevy Trax and 2024 Buick Envista ride on similar underpinnings, namely the GM VSS-F vehicle set. With that in mind, it’s not out of the question to assume that these two crossovers should present relatively similar interior dimensions.
This holds true with regard to passenger room, where we find the biggest difference to be rear headroom, with the 2024 Chevy Trax offering as extra 0.8 inches compared to the 2024 Buick Envista. The Trax also has an extra 0.2 inches of front headroom. Meanwhile, the new Buick Envista bests the new Chevy Trax in regard to front shoulder room, front hip room, and rear shoulder room, although not by much.

Rear Shoulder Room (mm) | 1379 | 1384 | -5 |
Rear Hip Room (mm) | 1163 | 1163 | 0 |
Moving on to the cargo dimensions, we find the 2024 Chevy Trax offers a bit more space than the 2024 Buick Envista, with an extra 12.1 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row, and an extra 4.9 cubic feet of room behind the second row. Considering the Envista measures in with 42 cubic feet behind the second row and 20.7 cubic feet behind the first, the extra space on offer from the Trax could be considered somewhat significant for those customers looking to maximize the practicality of their new small crossover.
Dimension | Trax | Envista | +/- Trax vs. Envista |
---|---|---|---|
Cargo Volume Behind First Row (cu. ft.) | 54.1 | 42.0 | +12.1 |
Cargo Volume Behind Second Row (cu. ft.) | 25.6 | 20.7 | +4.9 |

Buick Envista Avenir vs Chevy Trax 2RS. Is it worth the extra money?
I like the Chevy Trax, Inside and Out ‼️
I just priced buick ST with adds such as power and heated seats, lift back. About 2k more than chevy with activ trim. The chevy activ comes with power seat and rs 2 doesnt. The chevy prob has the better value, but both are excellent prices imho. Car is for the wife and she thinks she may prefer the looks of the buick. I do like that you can load up the ST with features comparable to the avenir and still be a couple grand less. We prefer the ST look, only issue maybe the fake leather vs real leather. We will have to sit in both to decide if we can deal with the “vegan” leather on ST
I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for either one.
Well that’s good to know 😉
I would stay with the Trax Activ, its very similar in size to the prior generation Chevy Cruze, Both have 6 speed auto and both have 137 hp , but the Trax has considerably more torque. The Trax should do very well attracting former Cruze customers as well as those today who would consider an Elantra or Civic.
I think the Trax is much better looking. It hides that roofline much better.
Gm has done decent job on design with both. I need to see them in person to decide which i like better. Most of GMs new designs are appearing to be attractive. That’s good to see!
I like the Chevy Trax, Inside and Out ‼️
How is this person above using the same screen name as I have been? His comments are welcome, like anyone’s, but shouldn’t he or any another person have to alter the screen name in some way, either with an added letter(s) or number(s) or symbol(s)?
You appear to be using my screen name… Cut it out 😠‼️
3 Cylinder Turbo Chevrolet can’t even make a decent 4 cylinder Turbo LOL
We have a 1.4 turbo. 2014 and 2016. Both are still strong over 100k. Do u own a gm turbo? Not happy with it?
Well, the previous Trax was garbage compared to the “similar” Buick Encore. So at least it appears they start out on equal footing. Then it’s just a matter of your taste in styling, image, features and if the difference in cargo capacity is important to you.
Agree, we own a 2016 encore and never considered a trax. We will be considering both models now. Well done with design GM!
