The 4-inch chromed round assist steps (RPO code VXJ) are available to order again on the 2023 Chevy SIlverado 1500, GM Authority has learned.
This feature has been unavailable since early January 2023, and continues to be under constraint (unavailable) on the refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD.
It was previously unknown if the 4-inch chromed round assist steps would become available again for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 or if the feature would remain unavailable until release of the 2024 Chevy Silverado.
As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is motivated by a lineup of different powerplants. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, mated to the GM eight-speed automatic.
The other available gasoline engines include the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque and the atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine delivering 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, both linked to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.
The “second iteration” of GM’s 3.0L Duramax, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel, is new for 2023 and takes the place of the previous 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel. The new diesel provides the truck with 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, and is also paired with the 10-speed automatic.
The upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 will introduce several changes and updates from the 2023 Silverado. These include the loss of two paints colors and the introduction of two new colors, Lakeshore Blue Metallic (paint code GXP) and Slate Grey Metallic (GNO), to indirectly replace them.
The 2024 Silverado will also see the debut of the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine for the Silverado ZR2 trim level. At the same time, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine will adopt the TurboMax name. Finally, the new Midnight Edition Package will be available as an optional extra on the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, and High Country trim levels.
According to information obtained by GM Authority, start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is scheduled for July 17th of the 2023 calendar year.
