2023 Chevy Colorado 4WD Production Down Slightly In May

Some GM Authority readers have been told by dealers that supplier constraints are causing GM to halt or drastically reduce production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado 4WD during May 2023.

Parts supply is constraining 2023 Chevy Colorado 4WD production, but not to the extent of a complete or nearly complete halt.

Here are some comments and questions from readers on the 2023 Chevy Colorado situation:

“Truck manager from my dealer says GM is not able to produce 4×4 Colorados at this time due to supply issue. Is this true?” – Brian

“I’m hearing that there is a 2023 Colorado / Canyon constraint and they won’t be able to build 90 percent of 4WD trucks.” – John

In fact, 2023 Chevy Colorado units equipped with 4WD will be at 90 percent constraint during the month of May. This does not mean that production of Colorado trucks will be reduced by 90 percent. Instead, it indicates production will be 10 percent lower than the number of vehicles GM originally planned on building and allocating to dealers for the month.

Production of 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks with 4WD during May 2023 will still amount to 90 percent of the original number. The situation is expected to return to normal in June, but that could change based on parts supply.

Production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon is underway but deliveries do not occur instantly, likely fueling rumors of failing production. GM is often slow to provide accurate delivery information, adding to the uncertainty.

However, following the start of regular production (SORP) in January 2023, more and more orders for 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks will be fulfilled in the near future. In other Colorado-related news, Chevy will officialy debut the rugged Colorado ZR2 Bison on May 31st, 2023.

The 2023 Chevy Colorado introduced an all-new third generation of the pickup nameplate, featuring new exterior styling, a new powertrain, and fresh interior design.

Several different special editions of the truck are available. The 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Special Edition adds a whole lineup of technology and equipment turning it into an off-road champion, alongside lots of unique style. The Trail Boss also offers enhanced off-roading and its own distinctive aesthetic. GM Authority also brings you a walkaround of the WT trim, the base-level trim level of the Colorado.

As a reminder, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is motivated by one of two powertrains – the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine as well as the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine in Turbo Plus and Turbo High Output configurations. The powerplants are paired with a new-generation eight-speed automatic transmission, offering improved performance compared to the outgoing GM eight-speed automatic, though with some issues still to be overcome.

  1. “Production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon is underway but deliveries do not occur instantly,” I wonder if waiting 4 months for shipment after the truck is built qualifies for their “instantly” delivery classification? It’s bad enough that they are withholding important information from their customers, now they talk to us like we are fools.

    1. Because something is up and GM won’t be transparent with their customers about what the issue is. Can’t blame the dealership or the salesman. GM owns this cluster. If I don’t receive my 3 month old truck soon, I’ll go somewhere else. Absolutely ridiculous.

  7. Ordered my Trail Boss in February built on 3-17 great 2 weeks from order. So why is it that as of today 5-10 I’m still waiting??? I see Colorados being posted on a few FB site’s thousands of miles from the plant and my dealership and I are only 3 hours away! Just notify me GM of what’s going on other than delayed. I’m a grown man I can take it. Thanks for letting me vent.

  11. Before I agreed on buying my new 2023 Chevy Colorado 2.7 Turbo Plus on April 3, 2023, they told me this truck was already built and ready to ship out of Detroit MI., and that I’ll have a two weeks wait for its shipping. Two weeks, but it now two months. I don’t blame the Dealerships, but it’s starting to smell fishy, really fishy.
