Retrofits of the heated steering wheel (RPO code KI3) feature for certain units of the 2022 GMC Acadia are now under way, GM has announced in a customer satisfaction program bulletin. Some GMC Acadia vehicles built from December 6th, 2021 through April 17th, 2022 are affected.
An unspecified number of 2022 GMC Acadia units were built without the heated steering wheel they were intended to be equipped with. Lack of components caused by the semiconductor shortage in the wake of COVID-19 made GM unable to install the heated steering wheel in certain trim levels of the crossover during almost five months of production.
The heated steering wheel feature was normally available for the SLT and AT4 trim levels of the 2022 GMC Acadia as part of the Preferred Package (RPO code PDO). The heated steering wheel was standard on the range-topping Denali trim, and not available at all on the SLE trim level.
The constraint applied only to SLT and AT4 trim level 2022 GMC Acadia crossovers. The Denali trim was shielded from the constraint and all units were built with the feature functional. Affected units of the SLT and AT4 trims were indicated as such with the RPO code 00G on their window sticker.
Several other GMC vehicles received limited heated steering wheel availability at the same time, including the GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra 1500 Limited, GMC Sierra HD, GMC Terrain, and GMC Yukon.
Certain of these vehicles will also be eligible for a retrofit, while no retrofit will be available for other models and buyers received a credit or price reduction ranging between $150 and $500.
Dealerships are to retrofit affected GMC Acadia units with a new, functional heated steering wheel, per instructions from GM. The retrofit requires around 30 minutes to complete and is to be carried out at no additional charge to the owner of the vehicle.
The retrofit program is in effect until March 31st, 2026.
Buyers of the 2022 GMC Acadia were notified at the time of purchase that the heated steering wheel feature was constrained and unavailable. The dealership was also to inform the buyer that a retrofit would be launched in the future once the needed components became available again.
Owners of affected 2022 GMC Acadia units who have questions or concerns about the retrofit, or want more information, can call the GMC customer service number, referring to the GM customer satisfaction program number below.

The naturally aspirated 2.5L LCV I4 engine was deleted for the 2022 model year.
The second-generation GMC Acadia rides on the GM C1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Spring Hill Plant in Tennessee.
