2022 Chevy Blazer Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit Under Way

GM has issued a service bulletin announcing that certain units of the 2022 Chevy Blazer, produced from November 22nd, 2022 onwards without a functional heated steering wheel (RPO code KI3) feature, are currently eligible for a retrofit.

GM produced certain units of the 2022 Chevy Blazer without the heated steering wheel with which they were supposed to be outfitted. The microchip shortage following the COVID-19 pandemic interfered with obtaining all necessary components for the heated steering wheel feature, leading to the constraint.

Constraint on heated steering wheels began on November 22nd, 2022 and continued through the remaining production cycle of the 2022 Chevy Blazer. The heated steering wheel is normally standard on the Blazer’s RS and Premier trim levels. It is not offered at all on the 2LT and 3LT trims.

The heated steering wheel feature also became unavailable on several other Chevy vehicles, including the Chevy Colorado, Chevy Equinox, Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Silverado HD, Chevy Trailblazer, and Chevy Traverse, depending on trim level and configuration.

GM has instructed  its dealer network to retrofit affected 2022 Chevy Blazer units with the functional heated steering wheel. Service personnel should remove the non-functional heated steering wheel installed at the time of production and replace it with the new, fully-functional steering wheel that can be ordered from GM.

The retrofit is carried out free of charge and is typically completed in approximately half an hour. The retrofit program is in effect until March 31st, 2026.

Dealers notified 2022 Chevy Blazer purchasers of the non-functional heated steering wheel feature and an eventual retrofit when the vehicle was initially purchased. Affected vehicles were marked with the RPO code 00G on their window sticker.

The owner of an affected 2022 Chevy Blazer with questions or concerns can obtain more information from The General by calling Chevrolet‘s customer service number, referencing the GM customer satisfaction program number below.

As a reminder, the Chevy Blazer is motivated by either the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine developing 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Both powerplant options are mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with standard FWD and optional AWD.

Under the body panels, the Blazer rides on the GM C1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.
