2022 Cadillac CT5, CT5-V Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit Under Way

GM has issued a service bulletin for the retrofit of the heated steering wheel (RPO code KI3) feature on certain units of the 2022 Cadillac CT5 and 2022 Cadillac CT5-V produced between December 6th, 2021 and March 27th, 2022 inclusively.

GM produced some 2022 Cadillac CT5 and 2022 model-year Cadillac CT5-V units without a functional heated steering wheel feature starting on December 6th, 2021.

The microchip shortage resulting from supply chain disruptions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic caused GM’s production facilities to manufacture the 2022 Cadillac CT5  and CT5-V without the heated steering wheel, because of a shortage of necessary parts. All affected units are indicated as such with the RPO code 00G on their window sticker.

The heated steering wheel was optional as part of several different packages depending on the 2022 Cadillac CT5 trim level involved, as follows:

  • Luxury trim: available as part of the Cold Weather Package (RPO code Y19) only.
  • Premium Luxury trim: available as part of the Platinum Package (PCJ), the Super Cruise 2 Package (WCA), and the Climate Package (Y6F).
  • Sport trim: available as part of the Platinum Package (PCJ), the Super Cruise 2 Package (WCA), the Climate Package (Y6F), and the Cold Weather Package (Y6F).
  • CT5-V: available as part of the Premium Package (PCK) or Cold Weather Package (Y19).

The KI3 heated steering wheel was standard on the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and remained available throughout, unaffected by the constraint.

The industry-wide absence of enough parts at the time caused GM to build a number of other Cadillac models without a functional heated steering wheel. These include the Cadillac XT4, XT5, and XT6 crossovers, along with the CT4 sedan.

With the necessary parts now available in May 2023, GM has instructed its dealerships to provide a no-cost retrofit for affected 2022 Cadillac CT5 and CT5-V units. The dealership service personnel remove the non-functional heated steering wheel and replace it with a functional steering wheel, making the heating feature usable.

The retrofit program will be available through March 31st, 2026.

Owners were notified at the time of purchase that their 2022 Cadillac CT5 or CT5-V would be eligible for a retrofit at no additional cost once the required parts became available. Affected CT5 and CT5-V owners who have questions regarding the retrofit can call Cadillac‘s customer service number, referencing the GM customer satisfaction program number below.

As a reminder, the 2022 Cadillac CT5 was built with one of three powerplant options, including the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, as well as the twin-turbo 3.0L V6 LGY gasoline engine, rated at 335 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.

The CT5-V is likewise motivated by the LGY, tuned to produce 360 horsepower. The CT5-V Blackwing cradles the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque.
